Not a Good night (last night)

Didn't know if I should start a threat on this....

Well I was driving home from my girlfriends place and about to turn onto a big main road. Slowed down to a crawl and about to drive off when I saw a car in the closest land and stopped. Next thing I hear a BANG and a thud from behind.

I got smacked from behind by an 85 corolla. I pulled over to a spot to get out of the way of other motorists and got out and had a look. Just the bottom bumper part of the car was stuffed and I think one of the brake lights need to be changed. I looked over to the other guys car and the entire front had caved in the raditor was broken and both headlights were gone. Also the car wouldn't satr anymore.

I got out and we pushed the car into a position to get it out of other peoples way (as some motorists had began to use their horn), there were two other guys that helped as well. They couldn't believe that the XR had so little damage compared the Toyota.

The car seems fine I did a small check this morning and it still looks straight and the book opens and closes with ease. Also no mechanical damage and the car seems to handle as well as it did before. I'm still amazed that I got off pretty luckly. Only bad part is that I don't think I'll be able to get the repairs done till late Jan (with holidays and stuff).

Not good news mate. Sounds like the Rolla got its fair share of damage.

Yeah someone ran up the *** of my EL last december and i didnt get it fixed and back on the road til January.

I had a friend at tafe who run up the **** end of a 4wd or something big. Was in an 80's corolla, she took out his brake light and gave the bumper a bit of a dent. Smashed in her entire front end (carpark speeds)
I'd hate to think what one of these would look like at 50+k's :S

Yeah, it was pretty much the first question I asked him.

It just gives me the s#it's to look at the damage.

Last time this happened to someone on the forums with a BA, the minor damage took a couple of grand to put right because from memory....

Asian cars mate, they have a sensor that upon impact make tenfold damage for good insurance claims, like compo scammers.

Heh, you better believe they are. With low speed incidents, the domestic falcodore alwas seems to come out on top over the little jap stuff. Been reversed into by a Toyota van while I was in dad's AU, the only damage was scratched paint on the front bumper of the AU, but the van's rear was all caved in.

Sorry to hear that your car's been damaged. It's always a really bad feeling in the guts whenever an accident occurs, even when you aint at fault.

HAHA. But work this one out. My company car HONDA HRV (like an excel on 4X4) got hit from behind by a new HONDA CRV (much, much bigger). I got a cracked rear bumper bar. He got a write off!!!

I had a magna rear-end me (pretty hard too) his bonnet was folded up back to the windscreen & engine against firewall! Most likely a write-off! Mine "LOOKED" fine except boot wouldn't open. At the beaters for the quote, they got the boot open and the damage was THEN evident! ($4200 worth) Even the spare was flattened. The rear bar absorbs heaps, then bounces back out which hides the real damage. In my case, thank heavens the quarters didn't crease!

Very true Charlie these front and rear bars are very good for hiding damage as it's when you look underneath that's when you go FA%^rk look at the damage.

I think it won't be too bad because I checked the boot and it opened and closed quite easily. No sign of damage inside. Not lucky to have the bingle but the resultant of it was quite good.

Cost me $832 (insurance)when a Magna reversed into my FIESTA while parked,Thats replacing front bumper only, headlites not hit.
Missus reversed into a Lancer $1200 damage, AU3 with HD towbar, nil.

OK well I've made my not at fault claim and they let me go to the repairer I wanted. He had a look and picked the slamm damage on the boot (very little). But he says the car is fine, but the quote will be in the range of $2500. I'll post the proper quote when he calls me.

That'll take another two weeks, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get them as work is going to be a pain. I plan to drop the car off and get it when it's done.

see if they can get some for you at the panelshop.... any panelshop thats decent will have a good digital camera to do the quote (they have to send the pics to the insurer) so see if they can get some of behind the bar for you and throw em on a disk

Yep, congratulations on owning a big local car.

I was watching some sort of NZ highway patrol show a few months ago, a Falcon had a head-on with some two-door econo-thing, the econo-thing had it's rear-view mirror just behind the front seats, the Falcon had a dent up to the battery. Mechanical darwinism. Just make sure you don't run into a Prado.

Yea, I think they're designed to stay in one piece but bend underneath...

Finally got the car back from the panel shop and it's been transformed back to its wonderful self. Even got a small scratch fixed on the front end lower bar.

All up the damages came to about $2600.
