But at the end of the day poor tyres will yield that result not necessarily the car! My Courier has no airbags or ABS. No ABS is bad but it means i keep my distance. No airbags...well if i crash into anything more solid that the Courier itself at and over 60kmph im well n truley stuffed anyway so who cares! Ah well, thats my justification

Learn to drive. Simple. Im sorry but if you cannot pull a car up in the wet without ABS your driving skills are less then average. So you are going to live in a bubble and put all faith and your kids lives in the hands of an electronic componant that can and does fail? No wonder this country is turning into a bunch of inempt fools. Society is catering for the lowest common denominator and it seems as though the denominator is getting lower each year. |

But if you're going 80km/h down a steep hill with cars all around you whilst it is raining and you are forced to slam on the brakes to attempt to avoid the car in front...then what happens? You'll slide and hit the car. There is a big difference between cars with ABS and cars without when braking hard in the wet.

I miss my '92 EB Fairmont too from time to time.
This car had 370,000km on it when I traded it on the BA and it ran very nicely indeed. Best value car I've ever had, with comfort aplenty !

When my WRX sells, I know I will miss it greatly. It's been an awesome car. It has given us many happy memories. I will definitely miss the straight cut gearbox and exhaust noise.

That must be why 90% of cars these days have it. And it's not a matter of pulling up in the wet, that's easy if you're just stopping for a set of lights or something The problem is pulling up in the wet when some idiot infront of you does something stupid & you have to slam on the brakes. Most people would cement their foot to the floor & lock up the fronts. Last edited by Djrystofer; 06-03-2012 at 08:54 PM. |

Not hijacking as I had permission off "THE SLUG" to post,
This is what happened to mine, "Even though the front of the car is smashed, I wasn't the one at fault. An impatient bloke decided to risk it, and cross over two lanes of highway. Which ended up in me not being able to see him as there were cars next to me and blocking sight of him. And, lo and behold, I smashed into the rear of him, snapped his rear axle and wheel, and wrote my car off. Over 5000$ I had put into that car. Wasn't very happy Instead of him receiving what he deserved, he tried to turn the story and said that I "Sped up" to cause it....Why would I possibly want too do that? Thought i'd mention as well, engine was still running after this, although all the alarms were going off and rad was destroyed....Oh the good 'ol falcon Cheers |

I still get choked up thinking about when I sold my first car. It was the Beige Bullet, a 1977 mk2 escort with a 1600 and 3sp auto. Paid $400 for it in '04, it was a one owner museum piece, 72000k's, original spare in the boot and dealer service book came with it! It's brakes gave out, tyre blew out, head gasket went, trans got stuck in 2nd and it cought fire one night on the way home from work but I kept fixing it and it served me well. Sold it to a bloke down the street who loves it just as much as I did and drives it from Adelaide to Alice Springs and back every couple of months!!

I'm going to miss my BFGT when it goes... its killing me already and I've still got it. Out of all the cars I've owned I miss my XY sedan the most.
Off the top of my scone, I've owned a mini panel van, LJ torana, two XB Sedans, XA and XB coupes, XC sedan, XC panelvan, XH ute, KA lazer hatch, EB sedan, BA XR6 ute and Hyundia Excel. All of these cars were good cars to own and drive, especially the utes. But I don't miss them like I do the XY. Strange. |

*Thread mine*
I obviously completely forgot about this thread, but I thought I'd inform everyone that I actually got 'Whitey' back some weeks after I made this thread's inception, as the new owner did not fulfill his end of the deal. So Whitey's sitting in the garage collecting dust until I decide to register him. Still in great nick and starts first go, even after sitting for a couple of months Needless to say, I'm very glad I got him back

Finally traded my '89 R31 Skyline TI on my first XR6T, a Ford press car BA2 with the obligatory performance brake upgrade. I almost shed a tear as the mighty Skyline was sold with the odometer reading 895XXXkms. Salesman came up to me and asked if the reading was correct, and I assured him it was. Thing was, the odometer had stopped working 2yrs previously.
That old Nissan was damn tough, only on its second engine (first one lasted 390,000) and its original 4spd Jatco transmission. My BA2 was subsequently stolen and written off and I really didnt care that much, but I do still miss that old Nissan, resplendent in its faded blue Pacific Glow duco. |

I traded an XG XR6 ute on an EL wagon... and cried a river as my pregnant partner and I left the dealership in Wodonga to drive back to Canberra.
I was saying goodbye to a great car and my single hedonist life forever. The EL wagon I hated with a passion. Me thinks I should visit the mantherapy.org.au website?...

In 1986, my grandparents bought a 1985 XF Fairmont sedan. It was the car that got me into Fords, I used to get picked up from primary school in it every week.
My late Grandpa kept it in immaculate condition. Always polished, always freshly washed. He always used to let me put it into Reverse, and Drive for him, every time I would ride in it. I remember it vividly, like it was yesterday. In the mid 90's, they sold the XF, and bought a near new ED Fairmont. I missed their old car, so very badly. In the early 2000's, I was riding the bus to tafe, when all of a sudden, my heart skipped a beat. Out of corner of my eye, I thought I'd seen a ghost..... It was my Grandpas old car. I recognised it instantly, from the alloy wheels, to the rear antistatic strap, and the little chrome mitsubishi sigma guard top indicator repeaters........ that my Grandpa installed on the car. (he was spare parts manager at Mitsubishi) I later asked my Gran about who they sold the car to all those years ago, to which she replied - it was bought by the local mechanic who used to service it for them. In the following yrs, I caught fleeting glimpses of it a couple more times, but really nothing to write home about. It's like it was teasing me..... so close, yet so far. I used to always fantasize about being able to buy it back one day, or to see it in a carpark, and leaving my number under the windscreen wipers............ but I never got that chance. Fast forward to 2007, I needed to get my sisters Mazda 929 dyno'd to chase an engine detonation issue, and a local place was suggested to me. When I got there to make the booking, I realised it was the mechanics my Grandpa used to use, so I introduced myself, and also asked about the car, what happened to it, etc. He beckoned for me to follow him into the dank dark workshop, where to my surprise...... sitting up the back, in a dusty corner was my Grandpa's old XF.......he still had it, after all those years, looking like a shadow of it's former self, with extremely weathered paint. Then to my amazement, before I could say another word, he said it was for sale and for the princely sum of $400.00, I could have it. Now let me tell you, with my heart pounding in my ears, I could not get my wallet out fast enough...... Hell, I even got all the original Ford keys back for it.... the guy had kept them safe, for all that time. Sometimes when I reflect back, I can't help but shake my head........ thinking after all those years, she'd been hiding under my very nose, only two suburbs away. And so that's my story, of how after many years and much longing, I managed to buy back the one car that started my epic love of Ford's. Here's how she sat when I got her back, weathered paint and all.

I miss my VL Calais, my wife is not really a car person but even she said that was a great car. Every time my daughter wouldn't sleep take her for a drive and the old 5lt got her every time. Sold it 10 years ago and now it's for sale again, now has injected 5lt and its a lot more than I sold it for but it does not get me enough to buy it again. Lost 10 grand first time around:

At the moment, it's at my mums country property, being used as a spare vehicle. It will eventually be re-painted the original Ice Blue and preserved as close to how my Grandpa had it, as I can possibly get. It's never been out of rego, however the mechanic did have personalised plates on it, then a new standard issue plate sequence. Luckily, I remembered the original rego vividly, so one of the first things I did, was to buy back from Vicroads and re-fit to the car, plates with the original registration number. That alone, made the car look and feel so much better. For ages, it would give me that nice tingly feeling everytime I'd get in it and drive somewhere. I'm sure people here know what I mean.
