Default Ipod/Iphone help please

Hi Guys

I have a MC Mondeo and I am having real trouble getting my ipod to work and also my iphone's music list to work. I have purchased one of those Y plugs that has been mentioned a few times on this forum.

Ipod - can only get it working when I plug into the AUX hole in the glovebox - then the songs actually play if I tune in via the "Line in". If I tune in via Ipod, I can control the songs via the steering wheel but can't get any sound.

Iphone - as above, but can only stream via bt audio but its very unsteady i.e. plays for ages but then cuts out (actually my iphone does this as well - cuts from bluetooth intermittently). No sound if I connect via ipod cable to usb socket - all the songs come up on my screen but just no sound.

So I am a bit lost - I was hoping it would be an easy thing, get in the car attach ipod or iphone and can use the steering wheel to control but no go.

Can anyone give me tips on what I might be doing wrong ?

Thanks apstar - So if I'm reading correctly I can only use iPod or music on iPhone using the 3.5mm aux cable ?

I have my daughters old Ipod Nano Gen2 living in the glovebox. I plug in with BOTH the 3.5 mm (for sound) AND the USB for selection control (no sound). The thing turns on/off with the car (Install switched off, but volume on full).
And a friends iPhone4S pulgs into the same Y cable and works fine.

It is activated (in MB XR5) under the cd/aux selection fascia button - just cycle thru by pressing same button repeatedly until ipod comes on (CD>iPod>Aux In).

Cheers.....

allanv6gt is correct in saying the ipod volume has to be full, with both USB and aux connected. You can then control the volume via the head unit or steering wheel controls. I also have the Y cable.
I call up the ipod using the HMI screen, which gives me the normal ipod choices on how to select songs (artsit/album/genre etc)
just used the car for the first time in a month and the ipod was fully powered up from the start, as the car charges the ipod when in use.

I had some problems with the I-pod, so simply use a USB stick.
Works perfectly, and can stay in the car!

I originally connected an iPod using the USB and the 3.5 mm audio jack in my MC Mondeo Titanium. I recently discovered that it works just as well with the audio plug disconnected and only using the USB.
I can also stream music from my phone using the Bluetooth option.

Sounds like the pin mapping on the iPod on the MC has changed compared to the iPod Nano Gen2 in MB XR5 I have.
Anyway, good news - worksd as it should with USB plug.

Bluetooth is another method for those with modern touch phones with your music loaded.
I just leave the old ipod in the glovebox (and have used a physically small 8Gb USB stick successfully too). That way I don't flatten my phone or need to plug it in each trip.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have a question for people using an iPhone/iPod via USB or Bluetooth...

...I have a 2013 MC Zetec Hatch and was wondering how to pause/stop music or podcasts without having to hit the || button on the iPhone. Is there a method of pausing and resuming play via the steering wheel controls?

The only way I've found to stop the audio at the moment is to turn the Sony head unit off! Obviously this is a pain and not workable. Please tell me I'm being a dope and I'm missing something obvious.

I too would be interested in this!

It took me a while to work out that pressing the green phone button muted the call in progress and as someone who does a number of teleconferences from the car . . . this was a great find indeed.
