Interesting results.

I'd say I would have to be familiar with the road and what was coming up in terms of length of the overtaking lane before I would exceed to overtake. Flappist's post kinda gave the impression in the scenario that you 'are' familiar with what's coming up, so I chose option 4. I'd choose option 3 as well depending on the circumstances.

If I didn't know the road, and how many cars were in front - I'd play it safe and sit back and let others pass. Not often, but sometimes the slow ones are polite and pull over eventually when they realize they're holding others up.

That being said, sometimes you don't get the opportunity to get into the overtaking lane if you're the one behind the 'slow convoy' because of all the others who have sped up and don't give you the opportunity of even 'checking your mirrors' before pulling into the overtaking lane.

All depends on the circumstances in the situation in my case.
