They class it as, if the keys are in the ignition, you are in control. No matter if you are drunk, drugged, phones etc

Oh trust me, I do NOT agree with it either. But one of my mates got fined while pulled over, car in neutral (manual) handbrake on, while on the phone

What about something like an iPod? Are you allowed to change the music your listening to in the car or is that illegal as well?

That just does my head in. When i get pulled over i like to play dumb, in this case however i reckon i would get abusive and tell the copper to use some common sense. (would make things worse but might make them think about it later)

Im sure everyone "needs" to use their phones. Just like texting... they all "need" to text while driving.

most of the stuff cops use there phones for is general stuff not life and death. if it was only life and death stuff they would hardly ever have to use them and your texting comment is poorly thought out even cops cant text while driving. all I'm saying is with other forms of communications readily available they should rarely have to use phones while driving they just use them because they can
cops aren't magically safer because of their job or uniform. if using a phone is dangerous why should they use them ? dangerous is dangerous nothing changes that Quote:

This subject saddens me as it seems there are a number of people who just do not give a stuff about other road users. There is a heap of evidence that using anything but your car controls while driving ie stereo, phone, makeup, Maccas, even ciggy smoking can and does cause deaths and injuries on a daily basis. The one that stands out was the fool who was adjusting his car radio, looked down to find the control he needed and killed 4 (or more) teenagers. He was sent to gaol of course but that did not bring back the lost family members. When people learn to be responsible on the road maybe the penalties will no longer be needed but I'm not holding my breath. A member on these forums said he was too busy to be pulling over for phone and text. I wonder what he would be saying if someone with the same ideas put him in hospital while answering a text message?
