been there, hated it. That's why i'm sticking with my XR8. Nothing worse than being stuck behind some old banger 4wd belching smoke and struggling up hills.

You can't overtake if you have to go even one kph over the posted limit to do so...full stop. Police have been drumming it into people for years now.

Doesn't stop me doing so when it's safe of course...

Failure to train young drivers in overtaking skills is culpable.....
The responsibility predominantly lies with the learner driver IMO, for example my wife and I offerred to pay for 75% of the cost of 6 professional driving lessons for one of our daughters, the other is too lazy to even bother to learn to drive, that's what her boyfriend is for according to her...anyway back to the other, (she and her boyfriend are earning so we wanted them to acknowledge the value of these lessons by contributing a very small part of the cost).

Too busy, can't afford it, e.t.c. e.t.c. one excuse after another after another....
Always plenty of money for booze and smokes though.

I tell ya, youth of today, its damm near impossible to tell them anything, both my daughters in sooooo many ways tell me they know everything allready. They're now both over 21, the responsibility now sheets home 100% where it belongs as far as I am concerned.

With all due respect Flappist, I would like to see proof (facts or figures) to back a statement like that.
I would have thought fatigue, would have been the most common situation for head on crashes (my opinion only, no facts to back this up).

...but the most common causes are:
  1. Rear-ender
  2. Side-on
  3. Head-on
  4. Running off road on straight road
  5. Running off road on curve

I am talking about the most common FATAL not the most common prang.
My info comes from many conversations with friends in our local traffic branch and is based on their personal daily observations.
Fatigue is another common cause but fatigue can also interfere with your judgement thereby causing you to overtke when you should not.

But all the stats are available, go for your life looking them up.

I would say fatigue & overtaking would go together, but does not matter as both are equally dangerous when it comes to driving....any how back on topic I had a nerve racking experience teaching my two daughters to drive, had to wait for them to have enough road experience to attempt overtaking and they did fine.... thank God my teaching days are over with lot of hair loss & high blood pressure...lol

The 80kmh is only a restriction in some states.
