Default BA Aftermarket Wheel Advice...

I'm looking for anyone's 2 cents on this wheel and tyre package I'm looking at:

The wheels are visually perfect for my car (BA in Vixen), I travel a lot down the Peninsula, so I won't go above 18", and the price is good.

I'm wondering: is the price too good? What reputation does APEC have in terms of quality/breakage?

Hi mate it says in the details that they are 4 stud. BA are 5 stud. Maybe they make them in 5 stud but just not shown there.

I've been looking at these for a while... From memory they were multifit?? But you're right, I can't see that statement anymore. Unless they no longer stock 5-stud?

That's really annoying. I was set on these.

It's always a good idea to confirm the offset, PCD and centre bore
of any aftermarket wheels for your car. Suggest that you get it in writing
before you purchase.

BA/BF
Offset: +36
PCD: 5 x 114.3
Bore: 71.5mm (note, thin plastic spacer rings are available for hubs also)

apec rims are good quality, they have the same approval rating as the rims on our late model liberty

i had 18" apec rims on a previous car and hit a massive pothole @100kph on the highway at night, and the rims survived without any cracks or buckles

Would someone mind explaining Offset, PCD and Bore to me? I'm completely new to the wheel game. And are those figures minimums?

I was looking around, this set seems to match the stud figures (5 x 114.3?) at least...

A google search will show some diagrams, but basically PCD is the diameter of the bolt circle - the 114.3mm. The centre bore is the size of the hole in the middle of the wheel where the hub pokes through. The offset is the distance from the centreline of the wheel to where the mounting face is. It used to be that this was zero on older cars, but now they have offset to allow room for larger brakes and better suspension geometry, so the mounting face of the wheel is closer to the outside - the 36.5mm.

So, understanding that 36.5 is the factory offset, what would be the maximum and minimum offsets a BA (with standard brakes) could handle? And what are the penalties/disadvantages of too much/too little offset?

So from reading that, an offset of 30+ Front and 38+ Rear would be reasonable? Or would that be too far?

You might be pushing things with +30 on the front - the key thing is clearance to the suspension (& caliper if you have Brembo's), I'd recommend test fitting the wheel & tyre to make sure it fits before buying.

Vicroads (& all states) impose limits on how much you can widen wheels or the track width dimension. If you go too far you can also compromise wheel bearing life (& insurance cover).
