I've got one. First one died but the second has been good. The extra channels are good as is the ability to rent movies.

If you are a fan of the V8's, AFL or NRL then it is definitely worth it. Foxtel will also be available on it soon too.

They've just released a second version (you'll know because it says June11 on the barcode) which has supposedly solved all the problems of the original.

It got a new remote. Looks the same design but internally different.
New firmware update (MR4.2). To reduce audio errors and BigPond movie streaming errors.
New firmware update for Thompson Modems (ADSL Home Network Gateway) - just the Telstra supplied WiFi Modem.

FOXTEL is currently available but only for Cable customers. ADSL will try to follow in the future but I imagine the issues atm are balancing the extra load on the exchange.

Since the update we haven't heard of as many problems as the previous version, which had a lot of customers returning! But of course time will tell!

We got one at the end of last yr... Have recorded two shows on it..we can never get reception on it ( total new house and tv wiring 2 yrs ago).

Never got the free movies we were gonna get with package.. Everytime we call them they say the 'voucher' was emailed to us..but it wasn't.

if you are going to record stuff make sure you set the times yourself because the T-BOX doesnt account for programs running long

It does if you set the times to go past the finish time. I have mine set to start 5 minutes before and finish 20 after. Channel 7 have a shocking record of running long.

Thumbs down Re: Telstra T- Box

I'm on my second one in 6 months.

The first one would just turn itself off all the time.

This one is going ok, but I only use it to watch the v8's.

It annoys me that Telstra can sell me a product they say is capable of running wirelessly off my Thompson modem, that they also supplied, and the streaming errors are always there.

Very frustrating watching a race and the screen pauses for a minute or 2 or the sound drops out.

These T-boxes sound like more trouble than they are worth with some of you on your second box already.

I may look into TIVO instead.

I reckon that could be the crapful modem/router.

What channel have you got the modem on? Automatically sets it or did you manually set it?

Didn't know there was a channel selection?

I just followed the normal setup process for the modem.

I run everything wirelessly in my house as I only have one phone line connection point.

The T-box is approximately 5m as the crow flies from the modem and my laptop in the office is approx 12m from the modem.

Both items have never shown less than 90% signal strength from the modem.

The Thomson modem is a dog IMO, I've had to set up a few for family and at work and each time I've had to go in and manually set the channel to 5 or 6 as that is the only ones that would work.

I had one too, never set it up and it is still in the box. Went out and bought a decent D link one and have had no issues.

Interesting. Thanks for the info RG.

Any particular D-Link modem you would recommend?

These things are good when they work but super bug riddled. We have 2 of them and have had 5 replacements. My mum has one and my sister has one also, mum's has been replaced twice so far and my sisters is really buggy but she lives with it.

The original remotes are extremely dodgy, telstra appears to know this and there is an updated remote that takes 2 batteries instead of 1 that works fine yet they still appear to sell some units with the original remote. If you ring them and complain about the remote they admit they are known to be faulty and send you an updated 2 battery one that actually works.
