Talking Can Series 2 engine go into series 1

My AU series 1 has done 305,000km (just bought it a month ago), has got 5 to 6 hairline cracks in sump and transmission is starting to wine (the reason so cheap I guess).
Wreckers are chasing $120 just for the sump. I have just found a whole car for $300 but its a series 2 with 160,000km on clock, There is nothing mechanically wrong with engine or transmission, so is it as easy as unbolt series 1 and then bolt in series 2 engine and transmission?

As long as they are both either a Forte, Futura, or Fairmont (ie not an XR6, or a Fairmont Ghia), then yes, you'll be fine. You will need to use the series one coilpacks and leads, or change the engine bay (or just splice coil pack) wiring to series 2 (AU1 coil pack sparkplug lead connectors are outies, series 2 onwards are innies, or vice versa). Alernator wiring plugs are also slightly different, but you can chop and change ancilliaries and/or wiring to suit.

Thanks Guys
Mines is a Futura on gas and the Series 2 is a Forte (X Sport I think) no gas
So I guess it would be easier to take the whole wiring of the series 2 and leave it with the engine.
Are the computer the same, all will that have to been change as well?

I did the reverse with our wagon,ie., put a S1 engine in our S2. The engines are exactly the same it's just the bolt ons that are different. The easiest way would be to pull both engines out and just sit the S1 engine along side the S2 engine and swap all the bolt ons over including the throttle body then just slot the S2 engine/trans ( now with all your S1 bits on) back into the car.

That's a good strategy too - depends on how old etc all the bolt ons are as to how much effort you go to. Engine wiring swap = big effort. Bolts on swap = less effort.

S1 ECU will run the engine fine whichever way you go.

Just install all series 1 components onto series 2 engine and all will be well. I.E. coil packs, throttle bodies etc.
