hey, i have a mk1 esky, it came origanaly with a 1.3 and now i got a 2l pinto, i was wondering what (if any) modifications need 2 be done. i heard u have 2 shave the radiator housing bak a bit, but otherwise ok.
also i was wondering if it will fit in with the standard break booster, or if i have 2 make a custom one to fit the motor in next to it?? cause the exhaust manifolds on the same side along with the steering arm. if any1 has any advice about either of these things id appreciate it. cheers guys. |

also dealing with this atm with my project. you will have to basically invert your brackets on the radiator and remove the sheet metal that gets in the way. the steering column in mine gets in the way of the flash new extractors and i havent tried the brake booster bracket yet.

i think cortina extractors foul on the steering knuckle, or you have the mounts wrong? i think the main thing you have to do is extend wires to alternator and starter, fuel lines, and change exhaust. you only need to cut the front panel if you're using a 2ltr radiator. brake boosters were all the same from 1.3/1.6/2.0 iv never done this, so i may be wrong.. just going by memory from what iv read.

No difference in extractors. Escort ones fit fine - No Mods required. Extention of the altinator wiring and the radiator shrowd neads to be bent done a bit. Brackets on the body are fine. Do your self a favour and ditch the motor run fan and replace it with a electric one. Air flow to the engine in the MKI is a bit more restricted to the MKII. The pintos are notorious to over heating!!!! A good aftermaket radiator is good value. Front struts should be replaced as the original one have smaller rotors and so on. The best thing is to buy a donor car and simply swap everything over. I all fits, just plug and play

so the extractors that i now have for the 2l going into the mk1 should fit if they are genuinely escort ones because there is no difference in the mk1 and 2 engine bay set up ?

Rob there is no difference between Mk1 & mk2 engine bay setups, if your extractors foul the steering rack I would say they are cortina ones.
The 2 ltr has a cut out in the lower rad support which allows the radiator to move furthyer forward both my rally shells have started life out as 1300 x flows so I have moded both to suit pintos |

The Brake slave cylinder and boster in mine was relocated underneath the dash on the drivers side by the previous owner, only the brake reservoir is in the engine bay. It frees up a huge amount of space, only catch when you spring a leak you get very slippery pedals. The radiator was also cut forward

ROBDOG, looks like your extractors are Cortina, they fit on the other side of the steering rod in cortinas with them having lots more room under the bonnet. I had the same problem with a set I bought for our Mk2, turned out they fitted the Cortina quite easy, lucky I have both.
With a bit of luck you may be able to exchange them if you haven't marked them at all. When purchasing extractors for the Pinto 2L you must state Escort or Cortina. Cheers, Les |

I thought some MkIIs have a booster closer to the firewall ? I had alternator issues with my 2l transplant into my MkI but I used the wrong bracket!
