Default Adelaide International Raceway Announces Andra Events In 2005/2006

ADELAIDE INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY ANNOUNCES ANDRA EVENTS IN 2005/2006 – 02/08/2005

The Australian National Drag Racing Association Inc. (ANDRA) has continued positive discussions with Bob Jane regarding the return of ANDRA events to Adelaide International Raceway (AIR). On July 14th, Jane announced a charity drag racing event, to be run under an ANDRA Permit, in early October 2005.

That Australia’s most spectacular motor sport is set to return is great news for racers in Adelaide, and the drag racing industry throughout Australia. That it will commence with an event supporting three worthy South Australian charities is a fantastic bonus.

The Mary Potter Hospice, the Julian Burton Burns Trust and the Masonic Lodge deliver great support to people in difficult circumstances and ANDRA commends their work. The concept of a charity event at this level is unprecedented and ANDRA will provide every support possible, once the track meets current standards and sufficient opportunities for ANDRA racers in the region are confirmed.

Drag racing has moved forward on a number of fronts in the past five years and the Adelaide venue requires upgrades to the northern barriers and some maintenance to the public areas as a minimum. We are advised that some drainage work will be done as a first step, and that all upgrades will be complete well before October.

Plans are also in place for further competition events. This is important because local teams can’t be expected to prepare for just one race. As well as a possible date in December 2005, January 21st and March 18th next year have been tentatively listed. A Nostalgia Drags event with ANDRA involvement is scheduled for November 2005. Off- street meetings will also be staged under ANDRA Permit, which will offer wider testing and practice opportunities to local ANDRA teams.

The South Australian Division has organized a free Technical Inspection Day at the Vehicle Inspection Station at Kateena Ave, Regency Park, between 9.00am and 2.00pm on Sunday, September 25th. Racers unable to attend on September 25th should make alternative arrangements by ringing 0407 714327. ANDRA Vehicles with odd licence numbers are due in 2005, but other vehicles with out of date labels should also be presented. Current ANDRA Log Books are required before Technical Inspection.

The proposed date for the charity event is most likely to be October 1st, 2005. Details of entry fees, posted prize-money and other event details will be circulated by AIR in the near future. Entrants will be invited to pass any prize-money won to the charities, but that will be their choice.

It’s been some time since Adelaide fans or racers have had local access to ANDRA Drag Racing, and they will have the opportunity to support three great charities at the same time.

Hear Hear !!

The more opportunities opening up in VIC and SA mean bigger fields all over the country.

Then Drag Racing can resume its rightful role as most popular motor racing category, with the series attracting major national sponsors like in the good old Winfield days.
