Western suburbs of Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Hobart, Canberra?

You haven't filled out your bio mate so we have no idea where you live.

Might be a good idea to be a bit more specific especially if you are trying to impress a potential employer!

haha well sorry about that!
western suburbs of Melbourne, im 18 years old and have just completed year 12 in 2008
i took and passed english, literature, biology, further maths, maths methods and philosophy, some of you who have been looking at some of my posts may know that ive been offered a first round offer to do arts at deakin which i have deferred and dont plan on taking up the offer next year
im looking for an electrician that can offer me a broad range of experience, im very eager to start work and im fit enough to keep up with heavy work, for the past few years ive been doing split system air conditioning installation with my dad for probably 3 months of each year (during summer and servicing schools over their holidays)
im very trustworthy and easy to get along with, if anyone wants to know anything else dont hesitate to ask

again, this is probably a silly place to look for an apprenticeship but i have a feeling there are a good many tradies out there who are also die hard ford fans just like me

Try places like Serena Russo, who specialise in looking after apprentices. They have a list of companies and employees looking for workers and companies alike

If you go out looking for an apprenticeship and visiting businesses make sure you go in by yourself. We have heaps of kids coming in looking for apprenticeships but they come in with their dads and the old man just does all the talking while the kid just stands there in the background. It is an automatic no from me whenever that happens as it is saying that they can't do anything for themselves.

i see what you mean, thats a good tip
i can imagine tho, some kids have trouble going and doing their own thing without the old man interfering because he thinks he knows best

doing a pre-app is your best bet as it counts toward the first 6 months of you schooling and you're boss get you on the tools 6 months longer

i would still go and look for an apprenticeship before you consider preapp. You just have to set some time and go out and hand in your resume at every place you can and like said above, make sure you do it all on your own. Personaly i would find it quite embarrassing if i had my dad doing all the talking! When i was 18, i printed out plenty of resumes, jumped in the car by my self and drove around victoria looking for the particular apprenticeship i wanted and had an interview date sorted by the time i got home.

Ive been chasing an electrical apprenticeship for a while, if its anything like adelaide now good luck is all I can say. I regularly search the Careerone etc etc websites, have called many through the telephone books, done a pre apprenticeship tafe course, pre apprenticeship 6 week full time course at a group training organisation that organises host employers to apprentice sparkies, plumbers and fridgy's and still have not got into anything. I'm now thinking about making "apprenticeship wanted" flyers and dropping them off at electrical wholesalers in the hope that some sparky grabbing some supplies might see them and give me a call. Its driving me mad especially since I figured due to the trade "shortage" i would snap one up in no time but its proved to be the complete opposite. And since the ecomomic crises things look even bleaker. Don't mean to scare you but keep looking and asking as much as you can but then again it would probably be easier to find an apprenticeship in Melbourne over Adelaide
