hey evryone just wondeing wats everyones opinions on gauge's do u think they look good or???

and where do u think the best place to mount them in an au is???

IMO Gauges, unless absolutely needed, look mega-bogan and godawful. But each to their own.

I've seen them mounted in the centre console on the passenger side of the transmission stick, and as per usual the driver's side a-pillar.

I am too looking at a single gauge in my AU, i dont trust the factory oil pressure, but in saying that i dont want it sitting in the centre console, whereby I have to look down away from the road to see it. Seeing as i will mostly need it at WOT etc the centre console is not where i want my attention to be :S

Other then the (illegal) A pillar, does anyone else have any pics of alternitive mounting places?

I still haven't gotten around to redoing it as I dropped this one on concrete and damaged it so never finished shaping it or painted it properly.
Have some time off work soon so might be time to get it sorted, there are more pics in the link.

does anyone no about any moulds that are allready done that go on to the dash like you can get for the BA but for the au's???

There is nothing premade for the au other then the one that sits in the front of the centre console (3rd post).

Unsure what you mean there - if you mean should guages be fitted just because they look good (if they do), then I'd say nah - that would be rice. I think looks come second - if you need guages, then you need 'em, so you gotta fit 'em, but just have to do it the best looking way possible. But each to their own as others have said, as the interior of you car is a rather personal choice I reckon.

I think you need to figure out what guages you need (including the type of guages etc. to do what you what), then look at any style options you have available in those suitable guages and how to mount them to make them look best (that suits you).

I have three guages (at least two of which I wouldn't need if Ford didn't give my XR8 a fake oil guage (yay - factory fitted rice! :togo: ) and semi-fake temp guage).

My style choice for my interior is to keep everything as neat and as 'factory' looking as possible. The best way I could figure out to fit my guages is in the pic below.

This of course means you have to replace your double-din head unit with a single-din, or if you already have single-din you have to loose the pocket or whatever you have underneath.

No, but i'd really like one!

looks like I am going to do similar to Cat600 and mount it on the steering column.

I really like the look of StealthAU's setup, sadly that wont work in a GHIA.

Could have them mounted into the woodgrain to the left of the trip computer, depending on the width of the strip.

EDIT Would also have to change the colour or do some fancy airbrush work to recreate the woodgrain look.

Hi Russell,

In my case, I bought an off the shelf mounting panel from Car Toys in Adelaide - can't find it on their site at the moment though.

I had to do some modification to the centre trim panel (the inner section - not visible outside) - basically had to mount the head unit up 4mm higher than the standard position, which also required me to make up an offset mounting stud for the rear of the unit and had to make up a bracket to make the unit self-supporting in the upper slot as the guage panel isn't meant to support anything on top of it.

Also had to slightly modify the guage panel to make it fit in the spot nicely.
