Default Counterfeit Money in Perth

Hey guys I though Id give a heads up about counterfeit money doing the rounds in Perth at the moment.

Someone I know picked up a fake $50 last night, apparently theres a few going around.

Looks/feels pretty much the same except it is missing the serial number and the southern cross on the clear window is missing.

Someone mentioned it may have something to do woth the royal show being in town?
Either way, theyre hard to spot when your working in a busy shop or out at night!

We've had these in QLD for the last year or so. They're good fakes, mostly $50's but also some $10's.

The $50's are as Jase described, the same as a normal note, bar the serial number being missing, and the southern cross missing from the window, and/or the embossing in the note missing.

The $10's are the same as a normal note, except they are all strategically damaged to hide the serial number. Also occasionally the window is not perfectly clear (cloudy in appearance). As such, most shopping centres around Brisbane will not accept damaged notes, especially $10's.

Keep a look out where ever you are in the country, cause there are some good fakes going around.

wow they dont sound that crash hot to be good fakes?

we've had some beauties at work lately. (i work at a maccas)

they are 50's. have the clear window with the southern cross. cant recall the embossing though.

the only difference is that when you crush them up, like making a ball of paper, they dont really spring back to shape like plastic money.

My Mum came across them recently when she went shopping at a IGA store.

Anyways she got them out of an ATM and when she went to pay they pulled her up and said the money was fake yada yada yada.

Anyways she went to the bank the following day and apparently they were real 50's but the part that was controversial was the name was missing where the womans names was supposed to be an they were legit.

But while at the bank they warned her of false notes in circulation missing the southern cross. So they'll obviously come out now at the royal show with all that cashflow.

As long as I can flog them off to the next person without them knowing it doesn't bother me.

One of the Macca's had to be shut down cause they got something like $1000 + of fake fifties.

The ones round here only had 4 stars, not 5.

Yes, I do. I've studied economics so I am certainly cognisant of the problems it casues.. You may question my apathetic attitude towards it, when I have an understanding of what detriment fake money has on the economy. It's a concern, but I don't think it has that much effect, as I don't beleive there is that much fake money floating around. There's a lot more things in this country that put a lot more strain on our economy which I feel a lot more strongly about, but I won't go on about them here as political discussions are banned on AFF for obvious reasons.

We used to get warned about fake notes at Woolies when I worked on checkouts, and we were told to try to rip them in half.
Plastic ones won't tear, but the paper ones will.

If it's a missprint at the mint I'd be taking it to a coin collector.
