Hi, was hoping someone could explain the differences in performance tyres. I get confused by all the categories.
Whats the diff between, slicks, et drag radias, et street radials, semi slicks (what else are there?) Are most factory cars running "street radials"?

Slicks = ET Drag Radials (Completly smooth tyre, illegal to use on road) Eg M/T ET Drag
ET Street Radials are drag compond tyres but with a tread pattern so they are legal on the street, although if it rains they seriously suck. Eg Mickey Thompson ET Street Semi Slicks are a circut racing tyre, they are street legal but are designed for circut racing, eg Yokohama A048, Dunlop DJ01, etc... |

Plus one for semi slicks, I had great results changing to Toyo Proxis last year, due to not being able to afford new rims and drag slicks. Sixty foot times consistantly in the mid 1.6 seconds.

-ET Drag are slicks obviously race only
-Radial Slicks are race only slicks with a strong sidewall, radial design (heavy super stockers with autos love them) -ET Street are cross ply slicks with thin grooves cut into them technically not legal -ET Street Radial are a radial tyre with deeper, wider tread and soft compound rubber (good on heavy cars) -Semi race tyres are circuit tyres that may be ok for some cars on the strip but generally not worth it. The sidewalls are to stiff to offer any wrinkling and a soft compound circuit tyre is still harder than a hard compound drag slick. |

On my XD I used to run Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pros they're a full street tread but with cross ply drag slick construction ie wrinkle walls & soft compound.
