while restoring my escort i have been driving around a VN bomb-adore which i got given for free. now let me tell you. a peice of $**t is an understatement. stuff like the wipers or indicators or lights would just stop working cuse the fuse box was stuffed and had too pull over and play with fuses for a bit.it would be quicker to thru the things that were working.... anyway im sure you get the point.
so im going down the street and the gearbox oil cooler decided it didnt like where it was and decided to fall off. thus all the trans oil came gushing out. :togo: never did trust autos anyway. turns out the oil cooler was just sitting there ( i think it might of had 1 cable tie) its my fault for never checking it. little more maitenence and it wouldnt of happend. its amazing that it had lasted this long with out falling off. even more amazing is the fact that the car was on the road for so long without being defected. i didnt even get pulled over by the police. i mean vn commo and p plates ust assumed i would be a target but i never gave them a reason too anyway. i have a mate in the CFS ( country fire service for those who are wondering) so i called him and he came out and cleaned up the oil spill on the road as i didnt want to cause an accident by just leaving the oil on the road . then he was kind enough to tow me home because it happend close to home anyway. now i have no car to drive. luckly the escort is almost finished and ready for roadworthy. cant wait to get back in a ford. never did like commadores and that car didnt do anything to change my mind.

Sounds like a good car to donate to the CFS for a practice car.Think of the satisfaction of watching burn over and over.

Why am I smiling to myself thinking of a VN just driving along and pieces randomly falling off it???

i dont understand what this post is all about lol. evey body knows that Holdens are crap/. thats where they got their name from holden, HOLDEN-TOGETHER. i feel so sorry for you driving a VN i bet you cant wait to get into a ford again. how long did you have to drive the commowhore for any way.
p.s didn't you know why there are so many footpaths? so holden drivers have a safe place to walk home. |

My dad bought a VN with 20,000K's in 1992.
Wasn't the worst car in the world, reasonably fast because it didn't weight much (compared to commodores and falcons now) and wasn't falling apart then. It was the car that made me a holden fan back when i was naive enough to be brand loyal. Fast forward to 2002 and he starts looking for something else, buys an AU and gives me the VN and tells me i can keep whatever money i can get for it. I didn't think it would be too bad because he's pretty easy on his cars but it was one of the biggest pile of crap i've ever driven/seen. The EB2 i had at the time wasn't much faster but the build quality was, and probably still is, in another league entirely. It cost me about $300 in miscellaneous things before i could sell it with a clear conscience. I dont hate VN's because they are holdens, I try very hard not to get caught up in the holden v's ford thing, but i would need a very very good reason to buy another commodore after owning that one. |

What year model are VNs? I got into one ONCE and it was the most uncomfortable POS I had ever been in. My 85 XF was so much better in every single way.

yea a lot of my mate have holdens mainly VLs and VNs they give me for driving a ford so i give it back. i dont mind some holdens but prefer ford a lot more. i appreciate any car if it is good and im not byist all the time. i drive my bosses VY ss and it has a clubsport body kit in it quite a lot for work, dont get me wrong it is nice to drive and you setranly get looks from it as well. the only place that i absulutly hate holdens is the supercars and thats when i go for ford and only fords

If you don't maintain any car it won't run for very long. After you have the esky running get the Commo going again, have a budget of like 250 to fix it and try to sell it for 1000 bucks.

Just join the two lines together if you drive short distances.. Then if you still own it in the hotter weather fit another cooler.. Don't they run through radiator any way ????
Or just loop a steel pipe across front of radiator like they did on Fords power steering ???

Holden's cars of the 80s for a long time were really not great. I would not touch a VK to VR, and a VS tentatively.
However, Holden has managed to claw their way to number 1 for a while and regardless of the difference between Holden and Ford, they've stayed there meaning Ford is on the back foot. I like it this way however as Ford will have to produce a superior car to the VE and helps to raise the bar a little more. I think each car has to be taken on its merits rather than its badge. |

99.999% of VN's are utter crap.
But i must say a friend of mine bought a 1 owner jobbie with 120,000klms on it and it was quite a nice car- Reliable and goes hard, but pretty noisy at speed and dicey on 14" steelies. But yeah i couldnt buy one, not when they are nice ED's going for beer monry. Family has owned 2 of them and they were ok cars in their day, but E-series Falcons were superior IMO.
