Default dropping the exhaust @ the diff

i've been playing around with the idea of dropping the exhaust at the diff.it seems an easy enough job, just the u bolt on the rear muffler and a couple of rubbers to disconnect.
i was thinking i'd have to put some sort of little dump pipe on the rear muffler to stop it blowing exhaust gasses straight onto the rear axle,(migh get a bit hot)

i know doing this would probably be illeagal, but i'm more interested in doing it for when i go out the drags for a run.
has anyone tried this on there i6?
did you get any noticeable gains out of it at the track?

thanks,jake

If this is just at the track, you might get some minor gains if you drop it at the extractors. At the diff you wont get anything.

Just work out where you want your exhaust to exit from and weld two flanges there. When you are at the drags just unbolt the flange and move the exhaust to the side so only one bolt lines up.

Like that you dont have to take out your exhaust and you can bolt it back up for the drive home.
