Can anyone tell me what the 'Thread Rating' is ie: why do some threads have gold stars and what they mean.

Some people rate the thread for whatever reason.. It is just a quick way to see if a thread might be worth reading or avoiding..
I have noticed that it isn't used in the way it is meant often though : Click on the Rate this thread above the first post and you will see the rating... Ranges from Excellent to terrible from memory

Thanks Fiery. I was curious because reading the Cars for sale forum there is a thread with 5 stars but only 22 views and 2 replies.
I thought it might be an automatic rating dependant on the number of people who viewed or replied but obviously not.
