As we know, as an RPO83 it's a very special car and as such, deserves to step out in it's Sunday best.

Besides, if I was lucky enough to own this car, I couldn't drive it with that dodgy black stripe down the side!
with the STUPID money apparently being thrown around it makes me really think about cashing in on the skyview coupe......

I was at Dean H.s place the day that he was offered that car, from the QLD owner, for $40k. I think he should have taken it, but lucky for you that he did not

hi Paull my coupe was purchased by a WA gt club member, Frank, from the original owner. Frank is close friends with Dean H, i bought the car from Frank and viewed the car at Dean's house.

Would be interested to know what the total final cost will be in the end. Im tipping the bill will be huge. Nice to see it's being done properly instead of a hack job like so many others.

I'm thinking circa $100 to $125K panel and paint, $50k to $70k on driveline/suspension/steering/brakes and perhaps another $25 to $40k for interior/electrical. Won't be a cheap resto but will be an awesome car with one hell of a story behind it.

I do enjoy these restos and watching them progress - but have now started loving a survivor more. Nothing like a car that has all it's original panels in place, all the bolts sitting in the homes they left the factory with, check marks, stickers, other factory flaws.

Agree with you, it must be the old age getting to me.. I used to prefer the flawless look, nowadays give me a factory original any day of the week

Once upon a time, I would have disagreed with you.

These days, I feel like a survivor can be driven and enjoyed. With a perfect nut and bolt restoration, I would feel terrified of driving the thing, which defeats the purpose.

(And yes, I know that is a bit rich coming from me who has a XR8 wrapped up in cotton wool. In defense, I didn't pay 200k for it though.)

How much of the original car will remain? This is more like building a new old car than a restoration.

Panel and paint will far exceed $125,000 Paull!!!!

There are a few XA GT coupes that have been done at the higher end of your $$$ estimate that were much less work than this!

Cool Re: chicken coop gt

not aware of updates but some pretty horrifying stories of costs billed out to the family for work done so far......a close friend of mine used to tell me the stories of how bad this car really was 20 yrs ago. seeing the photos it looks as though very little if any of the original car, from a parts perspective, could of been used

If you look at man hours alone, $180 an hour. 40 hour working week for 48 weeks a year. That's $345,000 a year per person working on the build. Now one person working on this car for that type of resto is never going to happen. Then add parts etc that gets very costly. Surely it would be in the realm of 1.5mil plus for the resto?

Absolute lunacy as the original condition Chicken Coupe was the genuine article and a collectors dream etc.

It's not anymore, basically just a overpriced rebuilt bastardised copy and probably worth zip to what it could have been if left alone.

i know what youre trying to say. it was a collectors dream when everyone became aware of it 30 plus yrs ago but owner couldnt part with it. by the time it was sold at 300k+ it was always going to be a money pit. how much of the original car is being used is anyones guess. the car was bought with the right intentions and tragic events have taken the gloss out of the car itself...if we were in the USA native Americans would say the car is cursed
