I work for a large engineering company and am presently on contract at one of Brisbanes 2 refineries. I am pleased to note that both of these companies have been very quick to put their hands in their pockets with donations of $100,000, and $200,000 respectively.
These donations will also be matched dollar for dollar with employee contributions, plus a very generous fuel voucher offer to emergency services from the refinery. We have seen some great examples of how far Mr and Mrs Joe will go to help out, and it's good to see the bigger boys get involved too. I urge all to pressure/ask your employers to dig deep.

I've had Sky on most of the morning. My heart goes out to the people effected. The pictures on the TV do nothing to express the situation, but the one that got me was on TV last week, with a Dam's spillway surrounded completely by water.
I just hope that the people of Queensland can get over this, and rebuild their towns, but by the looks of the weather maps, this is still quite a long way away.

Large sections of the Minden to Brightview reigons are now underwater. All roads leading out of where I am are now gone. I am literally watching this unfold before my eyes, and being helpless to do anything.

We have had 300mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 6.00am this morn. From 6.00am this morning till now it has been crazy. Torrential, non stop. We have a river running thru the oldest daughters bedroom. We have the pool pump on permanantley trying to backwash as its overflowing. Even with the pump on it can't compete with the rain and is still overflowing. We have some huge landslips on the range. Can't get out of our property as bridge has gone under by about 3 foot ( if it's still there ). Couldn't go anywhere anyway as all roads coming in and out are flooded.....

To give you some idea of how much rain we are getting, I put one of those big green plastic Bunnings wheelbarrows outside, I think they are 90 litres. It's been outside for 45 minutes and it's nearly full........

Did anyone see that footage on Seven News before? They kept showing a Subaru Forester with people in it being swept away into a flooded paddock along way from the road. They later said that by the time the rescue chopper got there, the car had disappeared. So they were possibly showing the final moments of someone's life. Disturbing.

Just got an email from someone too, currently releasing 3000mL/s out of Wivenhoe, downstream starts flooding at 3500mL/s. To keep up with inflow, they are gonna have to open them up to 4000-5000mL/s. Dunno how true that is, but either way. Hold on to your butts!

Text message just sent out from somewhere or other. (sent out as a mass text to all in the area)
"Immediate Flash Flood Warning for Caboolture, Burpengary Area. Very high water levels in Rivers and Creeks.Seek higher ground NOW" We are lucky that our house is at the top of a large-ish estate. But there is only the one road in and out, which has a large drain running through two places on the main road. The drain goes under the road at the bottom of the hill on both sides. At the moment it has flooded one side and the other side was getting high about 1/2 hour ago. We are lucky, but I do feel for everyone affected by the floods and hope everyone particularly, all on here stay safe.

My heart goes out to all effected. Pretty bad up here on the Sunshine Coast at the moment. I have asked some of my employee's to go home today as the last warning I checked was talking about 100mm per hour.

Since my 10.32 am post the rain has not slowed down a bit. We have heaps of lightning and thunder. The Bruce Hwy and Steve Irwin way are all flooded. It's getting crazier by the minute....

I just hope all those in the Caboolture/Strathpine area are heeding the warning to get to high ground as quickly as you can.
This was a text warning and radio put out by emergency services.

Nope 7news this morning said they were not rescued (10am news). The chopper had no rescue gear and went to get a member of QLD rescue, when they returned to the area they couldnt find the white 4WD.

Please do as asked and help lighten the load on the emergency services, god knows we will have enough to do as it is.

Safe is highly likely, I will be working on that. However preventing the workload from being high I think is impossible. I have no doubt we will be busy evacuating nursing homes and hospitals, just hope we do not have to deal with stupidity as well. I wish all residents of QLD well through this. Good luck to all the emergency services and agencies involved in the disaster management, stay safe everyone. Now I am off to try and get some sleep, might be a while before I get any more.

Well now the Universities are closed with people sent home as parts of brisbane are evacuated , my missus said she can see the river rising just watching it and with what is being released from Wivenhoe and Atkinsons dam ...
Oh boy the next couple of days will be a nightmare for waterfront homes... And some helpful advice from Scott ... http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11319348 |
