So they just cut them off, now prove they were ever on there, no chance, basically its getting so scary your luggage will be tampered with, better off driving.

Maybe, juust a thought, but it is possible they have side cutters and replacement cable ties in the rest of the planet too. :sm_drool:

there's this: www.tampertell.com

Anyway, yes I am just about to log off and watch the media frenzy on TV (in between bouts of housework) to see her get sent to gaol. IMHO she shouldn't be going there but what can be done? :(

the bottom line still is that you remove the tamper lock, remove the pad lock, remove the cable tie, dont put it back on, plant something in the bag, you can never prove you locked the bag so you are stuffed reagrdless, and guilty by default.

What exact time is the verdict meant to be handed out?

The only thing we can hope is that if she is sentenced, she gets transfered back to Australia and they re-trial her here.
She'll have a spot on Bet Newton, not worries at all!

It says about 3 hours from the start of proceedings. The judges have to read 80 pages of case summary.

I think we should have a trial of our own here. If she's found guilty again, then we should bring here here and let her stay in jail in Oz, of she's found innocent then there should be something we can do about it. I don't think we have a right to tell them their justice system is stuffed even if we have paid them billions in aid, we can't buy our way into their system of government. But surely there has to be some way of getting her out if we can prove she's innocent.

All I hope is that it was a fair trial and that she receives just treatment wither way.

She could be guilty or not guilty obviously. None of us can make any decisions on it. Drug smugglers are often people who are not 'stereotypical' smugglers. So, just because she appears innocent, and seems genuine, doesn't mean that's the case.

Her defence is utter bullsh*t however. Death or life sentence is for actively being involved in a drug smuggling syndicate, NOT for pocession of the drugs. They are trying to crack the procescution by stating she did not own the drugs etc. If they could attack the fact that she is NOT involved in the drug smuggling syndicate, her sentence would only be probably 5 years. BETTER than life. Basically, their defence is all emotional, and not substantial facts. Indonesian judicial system does not have room for 'circumstantial doubt'. It needs to be proven, beyond any reasonable doubt BASED ON FACTS that she is innocent. So why put people such as her relatives and people she knows to defend her, because the judge ain't gonna care about her personality and how she could not possibly be involved. They have no knowledge of the drugs, the whole situation. He wants facts about the case to prove she is innocent. This judicial system is alot different to Australia or America, and there isn't room for spinning shit. They should have proved she wasn't part of the smuggling, and just settle for a 5 year sentence for posession of drugs.

Lock your bags!

in actual fact they have more for shit for in indonesia, in australia the whole testimoney from the guy in prison and the letter from the govt about the baggage handlers would not have been allowed into court, so in reality she has more chance to get off in indonesia however if found guilty she gets a worse penality.

the prisoner exchange scheme does not allow for a lesser sentence in your home country, you are to serve the sentence as dictated/handed out to you from the country you are sentenced in, just you are closer to home and family.

Fact is she is gone, there is no way they will aquit her. This is now an internationally recognised and reported on case. Talk about a perfect oppertunityfor the Indonesian authorities to prove they are serious about drug trafficing of ANY kind. She's going to jail for a LONG time....even if she is innocent as I believe.

Its disgusting and wrong...and its not over yet. I'm convinced that someone is going to die due to this, just not sure who. Lets face it, Indonesia is full of crazies and it wouldnt surprise me to wake up tomorrow to see riots, looting and general mayhem. Not that they care about a Aussie wrongfully convicted but because there are those who will use any excuse to try and unseat the existing Govt for whatever reason.

Better than a firing squad.

the simple fact is that the Indonesians don't want to show any sign of weakness in their legal system so they take the hard and unjust line.

Hopefully the prisoner exchange goes thru and she comes home.

I'm just really mad now......

That cheap mate, they should offer to pay a million rupiah for each 6 months of here sentence.

last i heard $1 au was worth about 7000 rupiah....

(let me just check those figures)

xe.com Universal Currency Converter ® Results
Live mid-market rates as of 2005.05.27 03:59:51 UTC.
1.00 AUD
Australia Dollars = 7,205.76 IDR
Indonesia Rupiahs
1 AUD = 7,205.76 IDR 1 IDR = 0.000138778 AUD

That six months fine is only worth $138.77 au

(multiply that by 40 and you'de get around $5551.11)

She's innocent. They're corrupt. Surely somebody could be paid off for her to come home. (wishful thinking i know!)

I agree guys, never, evr will i be going to bali. However, i reckon that there is still a lot more to come, and maybe even protests and the like. When Bali realises the significant loss in $$$ due to an exponential fall in tourism, they might be forced to reconsider.

I certainly wont be heading there either.
Hmm what will happen to indonesias tourism, i wonder? As im sure most australians will not be considering indonesia for a holiday, not that im really sure why they would in the first place, even if they are our closest neighbours, considering the events that have happened over there in the past few years anyway.

as far as i am concerned all westerners should boycott the bloody place. Lets see there's the bombing and i might add who where first or one of the first to offer aide. then the big wave, once again who offered to help. so lets put it this way, they survive on their tourism lets stop all tourism and effect their economy. As far as i am concerned how can you prove someone guilty when all the facts have not been shown and accepted. Thats called unfair.

Personally, I'd rather see the "significant loss in $$$ due to an exponential fall in tourism" occur due to people not wanting to go to a country that has random and unexplained cluster bombs fall on thier justice* buildings at a regular interval.

Hmm, Tim, how far can a guided cluster bomb be launched from? Maybe we should buy a few tomahawks off Bush .... did I just think or type this? :

* Justice in indonesia is an oxymoron.
