In 1989 or 88, I badly sprained my ankle when doing bike stunts in West Melbourne with my brother one Sunday afternoon. I immediatrly went to the hospital and was to stay off from school for a few days. The next day, a courier came to my home and delivered to me a brand new Sega Master System! I won it in a newspaper competition. So I spent the day lying in bed playing three bundled games on it (some motorcycle game and two others). Then my father visited me and gave me a cassette album of Jive Bunny and the Mastermixers. Was lots of fun.

Playing Command and Conquer @ Uni with mates was fantastic (building as many stealth tanks as you can and hiding them in each others bases only to pop up at the right time then take out there entire base)

Duke Nukem was great playing that network at Uni also.

But one of the best was Jagged Alliance, they were funny games especially with the taunts etc, very simple but very amusing.

Must add:

Jetfighter II
Falcon 3.0
Baldies
Duke 3D
Doom
You Don't Know Jack

From 1995 onwards I was into the Melbourne BBS scene before getting onto the internet. So "online" I would play mainly Virtual Sysop (I think that's what it was called).

Space Quest games were great as well.
Wolf 3D ... damn I played that to death.

A great site for downloading abandonware is http://www.the-underdogs.info/ . Most of it is free, and you don't need to register (you can register but it isn't needed). That's where I get most of my abandonware. I'm hoping it's OK to post this link, as it is all old games that are no longer for sale anyway. It's not really pirating because it doesn't cost the makers of the games any money anymore. They've earned all they ever will out of these games.

And BTW, I can't believe I forgot Carmageddon in my favourite games. That is my all time favourite!
Sweet thanks again, ill look them up!

Ah and I cant believe I forgot:

- Ski or Die! ---lol crazy name
- Terminal Velocity!

EDIT: also, playing the games through DosBox and D-fend, why is the screen so small? I cant make it any bigger.

Before you set up the profiles, go to "Configure defaults". It should have a button that looks like a yellow folder with two ticks on it. Go to the General tab, and click the "Start fullscreen" box. That'll mean whenever you start a new profile, it'll now be fullscreen. Alternatively, to change a profile that has already been added, you can right click the profile and click on "edit profile". You can then change to fullscreen under the General tab again. Another useful feature is you can speed up or slow down a game by going to the "Environment" tab and changing the value in "Cycles" for the CPU settings.

Ski and Skate or Die were both a lot of fun.

I have only played Zool on SNES...not on PC.

Pinball Fantasies. Now there was a great pinball game!

Wolf3D. You can get editors for that game. We got one from Caribbean Gardens like 10 years ago and we edited the Street Fighter 2 version. We made Ryu's pants fall down and Kens head explode in pixelated glory. But the game rooted when we made E-Honda's entire blood supply almost fill the screen.

Was great fun though.

TAlking about editors, you can edit the original Sierra Classics. I edited Police Quest where I made the bikie at the Bar (next to Carol's Caffeine Castle) wear a green dress. Was very funny. Also made the girl at the Blue Room topless.

Ahhh memories.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis...great game.

I almost finished it, then didn't bother...can't remember why though.

Day of the Tentacle (with speech) was awesome.

But my fave adventures are Police Quest. However, Monkey Island and LSL are about 1mm behind.

Beavis and Butthead in Virtual Stupidity was also a lot of fun.

I was playing Carmageddon just before, but it crashes and poos itself a lot.

Diablo is a game I've just started plating again. Truthfully, I prefer it over Diablo II.

Diablo II had a better skill system, but I like the confined dungeons on Diablo. Plus I have a soft spot for Tristram.

The rogue's encampment, Lut Gholein, Kurast, Heaven and the expansion level (forgot what it was again) don't hold dear to me.

Yep, that's a cow alright!

Did you ever start 3D modelling for games? I did a few Victoria Police helicopters for MS Flight Simulator and sampled sound from a film with a car chase to generate a good replacement V8 engine sound loop for Driver (the first one). It became very popular! Suddenly all the Driver websites had a top-rated sound package by "Andrew." It was very exciting for me. I then sampled my own voice to replace the stupid American dumb cop voices but it wasn't as popular, hehe.

lol. Wow...that sounds awesome. But no, I haven't the knowledge to do that sort of stuff. My most used graphics program is MS Paint. I do logos. Personal logos mainly (just for fun).

I just play games. And love them. And ruin my education in the process.

I got back into EverQuest II again a couple of months ago almost.

Some of you have probably heard of WoW. Well EQ2 is a more traditional MMORPG which I think is far better developed in terms of gameplay and graphics, but it's so time consuming.

Other than that, Oblivion is still going on and off, as well as Australian Rules Footy on my NES emulator.

What new games have you people played recently, or what faves have you been playing?

Cheers

Duke Nukem was sweet. Wolfenstein 3D.. Umm, command and conquer.. Was Red Alert before 96? loved that game, lol. I remember playing test drive a bit as well.

There was also one where you used go jump through all this stuff etc in like a jungle setting, can't remember the name though.. There's other versions of it still being made today.. =/

One of my finest technical achievements was the purchase, installation, implementation, and support of 4 network cards (for me and my buddies) back in the days of DOS - and after 2.5 days solid of tearing out my hair at the lack of documentation and support (NO GOOGLE BACK THEN KIDDIES, NO NOT EVEN INTERNET!), we finally managed to get the machines working to play Doom 1 on LAN mode! Just sensational!

Ah so many games during that period... so so many hours spent (wasted?) playing!

With coax cable daisy chained? I recall me and a mate spending an afternoon playing Doom 1 on 1 via a LAN on a "high powered" 486. Then we got our own PCs in '97 and moved onto LANs with as many as 10 people using daisy chained coax cable with T pieces for each PC and terminators on each end of the chain.
Usually had to install a network card on someone's PC at the LAN then usually had issues with at least 1 PC not able to see the network.
