ok if this was a manual , anmd in NSW . the problem would be solved and we would have late model v8 motoring for another , 4 or so years before onselling again
very doable , and well under 20k changeover . http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/dealer/details.aspx?R=11386679&__Qpb=1&Cr=0&__Ns=pCar_Yea rMade_Int32|1||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSo rt_Decimal|0&keywords=&__N=1216%201247%201252%2012 82%204294965879%204294966800&SearchAction=N&silo=1 011&__No=60&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=77&__sid=1336E7C 1F0E7 |

Are you saying Brent that for an extra 5-7k I could forget the N/A XR6 option and, instead, get him into a BA Mk2 GT? Maybe used prices in QLD are a lot lower than here in Sydney, I don't know for sure...are you sure about those numbers?..Not saying you're wrong just seems unbelieveable . Then again every other friggin thing in this city is twice as expensive as anywhere else in the world, so why would cars be an exception...lol

What an outrageous concept, trading a FPV for a REX!!! I would'nt even entertain the thought, even if you do get a free bag of rice with every rex sold

I gotta say, I reckon the wrx would be an all round better vehicle.
The my 11's have some nice body upgrades and actually look semi decent again. Lightweight, ball tearer turbo that is small enough there is no lag in day to day driving, easy to drive, handle like a go kart and plenty of easy parts available to mod it. If your wife is doing the majority of the driving the GT is going to a bit of waste. It s big, it is heavy, it guzzles the fuel handles pretty average and to be honest, performance wise isn't really that far ahead of the wrx. I do however question the idea of constantly upgrading cars. Someone tried to explain this to me once that it works out better off to continually get new cars. Once you drive out of the dealership you wash off the biggest depreciation the car will ever see. If you have paid the last car off in full, there is no on going repayments - can go to a worthwhile investment instead like your mortgage, interest (seriously look at how much interest you pay on even a 3yr loan!) you know it's history and state of maintenance and once you get a few little dings and scratches you don't stres out about evry single little scratch or dent you might get anymore. |

I recently traded an AU V8 Tickford Ghia on a BF XR6. Old car was getting on, needed a few maintenance dollars so decided on trading and the B series 6s is all that would fit the budget. Thought they are a nice car and would do us well. Now all I feel is it was a big mistake, hate the XR6, openly call it a Camry to my wife's horror. I miss the V8 and should have kept what I liked and spent the dollars on keeping it going. The BF is a better looking car, more economical, faster and more Kw's, more high tech...... but I hate it. I want my old car back - but taking a financial hit would be more stupidity following a stupid decision. Generally car dealers are the only ones that make money out of cars so you have to accept that and get what you want otherwise your not being true to yourself. If your wife loves you she'll live with your decision. My wife likes newer cars but would have stayed with the Ghia if it kept me happy - and knowing me she warned me "are you going to be happy with this car?". My dumb decision but I will fix it as soon as it becomes practical to do so.
- take home message - get what you can afford that you really want or don't change.

If I was in your shoes I would be doing the following.
Build a shed for the GT and store it. Buy another car for her with your change over money. She gets what she wants. And you don't lose out on a great car as you will be keeping it. |

You will probably get a fair whack more of that 20 kay back in resale after 3- 4 years too if your smart, where as you will lose it if you by something in the 40 kay range.

Everyone that I know who has owned a Subaru says the same things.
Yes they are reliable, but the build quality is poor. They feel cheap cause they are cheap. They are small and not as safe as a full sized car. Not Australian made...that's a show stopper in my books. Wouldn't go near one, would rather get a Holden.... ![]() |

I own two WRX's and one old turbo EB V8.. On long trips the V8 is about as economical as the WRX...94 and 07 models...
If economy comes into it WRX is not the top choice... WRX are small cars.. But good reliable, FUN to drive... They get put down due the back cap wearing youth who buy them... In these economic times I would fear dept BIG time... Especially a dept that depreciates big time.. Having a new car doesn't last for long...

1. She was shocked by the severity of the argument the other day and allready knows you have very strong feelings about keeping the GT, that much should be completly obvious. She doesn't want to discuss it again because she doesn't want another really serious argument when she already knows your point of view. Even if she does bring it up again, how many signatures does it take to pay for any car change with joint funds...think about it, you hear what I'm saying ? Let her make the play, drag the chain, bleat about how much you love the GT e.t.c. 2. She's probably now toying with some other idea so I wouldn't worry about it any more for now. Do yourself a huge favour. Don't bring the subject up again and the problem may well go away.. If all else fails just insist on having another GT, extend the mortgage if necessary and buy a SC GT and enjoy. Life is short and you can't take money with you when you go ![]() Last edited by Rodge; 06-11-2011 at 05:03 PM. |

Mate, as you know I was recently in a similar boat to you but I was the instigator of the sale, not my wife. I bought an older Subaru (2006 Impreza) and it’s much “cheaper” inside than the GT, but I reckon the build quality is actually better. The design and materials may look cheap but they are incredibly hardwearing and good quality. The bodywork and mechanicals seem just as durable. The paint is definitely thicker than the GT’s which used to chip very easily.
The GT was a great car but as a day to day proposition I found it hard work. Stop/start, popping to the shops, parking it, driveline shunt at low speeds, scraping the front bumper on kerbs – no wonder your missus has had enough. If I only needed a car to drive 100 kms a day each way I’d take the GT in a heartbeat, but ferrying kids to the beach and trying to squeeze bikes in the boot or taking stuff to the tip, it wasn’t the right car for me. Why not sell both cars (total value maybe $37,500), get her a small runabout (maybe a Honda Jazz or something), 2010 low kms, say $17,500, then add the $20,000 she was on about and you’ve got $40,000 to get something newer. There’s a lot of good cars in that price bracket, including those GS302’s. |
