I just bought my place a few weeks ago..

The lawn was green, but not in a good way. Had 2-3 foot clover, massive weeds and holes from the previous owners dog (was a beautiful Border Collie x ? so can be forgiven).

So far a good mow (35 catch's later), a spray of weed/clover killer, some weed destruction (degreaser works a treat) and doing some edges. Its starting to look like a nice lawn.

It doesnt compare to the lawns above, but it has only been a month I guess.

I will post some pictures when I get home to show the before and after.

My lawn is riddled with the weed.

thanks for the vote XR6-VCT-2000. Yes I'm using tap water. Its because our water isn't drinkable that probably makes it good for the lawn!!
I think they are chucking in heaps more chemicals to combat the salinity of the water. No 22,000ltr water tank as yet but its coming, then we can use decent water.

I've got Palmetto grass out the back. I do look after it and its green as. Sorry no pics.
During the cold months I didn't mow it at all and it didn't grow. But now its getting warmer its starting to grow again. Its got a couple of dead patches which are slowly getting grown over. I don't know how the dead patches started.
I love this lawn cause its low irritant for the kids and doesn't need as much water as winter green and other fussy lawns. I'm running bore water on it which stinks so I don't know if thats good for it or bad for it but the lawn doesn't seem to mind.

One interesting thing I saw with the grass is that it used to have tons of weeds and then almost within a week all the weeds died and the lawn had not been affected. I had not done anything chemically to the weeds they just got killed by the grass.

Anyone interested in this grass go here for detailed info http://www.palmetto.com.au/

Thanks mate. I try.

Brunnings Lawn Green is the only fertiliser that I trust. I've just got to get out and mow it twice a week now. More if the weather stays good.

Well thread followers, I gave my grass some more attention on Saturday. I fed it Rooster Poo, no joke this is the ducks guts of fertiliser! PITA to apply, and needs to be watered in well, but in just a few days it is apparent the grass is thanking me for it
:-

My back lawn was dead a few weeks ago, and it's looking fantastic ATM. Gosh I love the weather here in Newcastle!

^^^^^^Good job Bob.
No stink from the poo? You've done a good job keeping the weed seeds, blowing from across the road, from infiltrating your lawn

Pics of my Front and rear 'lawn'. Gave up for the sake of the cars. The only bit left in the rear is slowly dissappearing with only a few square metres left. No mowing :

Was actually referring to the fact that it is a sprinkler! Haven't seen one in Melb for god knows.

As far as indestructible goes though ... a soaker hose is not dog proof! Those above are the only ones that will survive everything!

You need more room for lawn, Dave. Better drop the Landau off in Kilmore. I've got room for that baby!

Yeah but you can't do a skid in a house.

Also, what's with everyone buying trendy designer handbag mowers? What ever happened to just using the trusty Honda or Victa to do a good honest job?

Below lawn is my folks house, only picture I have that has the lawn in it. No sissy perfume powered mowers to be seen in that household, but the lawn is as soft and green any anything else.

Personaly, I use a cheap a$$ 'lawn beatle' which has a plastic body ! and set cut height, to mow small thin parts around my house. It works a treat and it's always easy to start and uses bugger all fuel.
The bigger areas get mowed with the Husky 1842 ride-on ( 18hp, 42" deck).

By the way, Nice lawns 'Peuty' and 'AC/DC' :

Very nice mate, looks like a very fine grass that can be mowed quite short. In the hotter weather, does this grass really need to drink a lot of water to survive?
