Good to see others are up at this hour watching cricket (or at least keeping up to date)

Can anyone tell me why Smith is out ret. hurt. Nature of the injury. I'm only just getting updated on the test so far. Will he be back???

Geez, who is bowling these beemers???? Its amazing what some confidence can do to a bowler..... now the south africans are on the back foot badly. The batsmen are jumping all over the place by the looks of it. That little finger could put him out for a bit.

Johnson has been ripping them down.

Aussies got another wicket and the feed died on me

Anyone esle having probs with it?

Edit: Holy crap more wickets! South Africa are 7/111 with smith gone for the rest of the match.

Crazy, did they start to bowl on a different pitch or something?

what feed are you using Doreslamr?

i was using the one i posted but its very ordinary and it kept cutting out too.

smith is out for 2-3 weeks apparently. A Prince will finally get a game. kallis has stitches in his chin, so not sure if he'll be able to bat in 2nd innings. i would imagine yes but i think he went to have xrays too.

siddle is also struggling and not contributing much. just makes you appreciate guys like johnson who just keep running in all day.

edit - just read that kallis was given clean bill of health and went back out to bat and was out without adding to his score.

RSA @ 7/138 at stumps either shows there is a lot in the pitch for the bowlers and Aus just handled things well or that RSA has gotten well ahead of themselves and thought we were easy beats.

i reckon thats a fair bit of it right there. i've seen numerous times where australia has walked out on the park and just assumed that it was all going to happen. we lost to bangladesh for crying out loud. that doesn't happen if every game is taken seriously.

maybe they even started to believe the rubbish they read in the media while they were over here, and that the aussies are a bunch of has beens.

the media is unusually quiet now though. funny that. they were yelling from the rooftops during our summer.

I was using the cricshow.com feeds, feed 1 was good till they changed channel to the Eng v WI game.

Then they did the same to feed 2 which left all four feeds showing the other match.

I tried the other one that was posted, justin.tv but I couldn't get it to work at all.

it rained before play i believe, which would have given the pitch something - remember we went from 4/303 to 10/352 in just over a session. we made a grand total of 48 in the first session for the loss of 4 wickets. all up we lost 6 for 49 or to put it another less flattering way - the last 5 wickets for 4 runs

I suppose we will see in the Aus second innings.

After the first 3 balls netted RSA's last 2 wickets plus a dot (Duminy n.o) Aus are at the crease with 40/0 off 8.3.

Maybe RSA did get ahead of themselves.

katich's turn this innings, going at a run a ball. hughes watching on this time. if they keep up this run rate they could put RSA back in tomorrow.

australia should try to build a fairly solid platform, around 150 for only 2-3 wickets and then up the pace. haddin and johnson should be given licence to just go for it.

getting a bit ahead of myself now.

you could very well be right, but i think there is a chance that yesterday's wicket was not user friendly for the batsmen. the pitch should be dry today (assuming it hasn't rained again) and probably will be more like the day one wicket

i've not laid eyes on hughes before now and due to the poor quality of the stream you could argue that i'm still yet to see him, but..

he looks good. the way he swayed out of the way of a morkle delivery, keeping his hands well down, great technique and great to watch. runs are coming off everything loose.

have to feel for p.jaques.

What is going on!! Where is the agro in the aussies? For about the 10th time in the last couple of seasons, we have a first innings lead of 200+ runs and we haven't sent the opposition back in to grind them under our thongs. C'mon Ponting, getabigblackdogupya

dissagree! the follow on would mean that suddenly australia would be batting last if required. if RSA got their act together and put 450 on the board in their 2nd innings (as per 1st test at wanderers and also in perth) that would mean australia chasing a mid size target on a 5th day wicket.

ever since colcutta(sp) when dravid and laxman turned the game on its ear, the follow on has been out of fashion. this way australia can put the game well out of reach of RSA and give themselves a decent chance of getting the 9 wickets to win. very hard to bat out time for a draw.

your opinion.
It's easier to bat to a target than to try & bowl a team out before reaching a target that is set for them.
That's what 20/20 & one day is about and I believe the ratio of batting 2nd to batting first has the 2nd winning more often
At the moment Aussies are hoping their 2nd innings will be enough whatever the target.
it's harder to bowl against a time limit (in tests) and the opposition then can decide to play for win or draw
Dravid & Laxman are always awesome on home turf but did bugger all their last 2 tours of oz

pontings on the move. 61 off 65. has all but caught hughes who is on 67. this is turning out to be a great tour for the aussies.
listening to grandstand 891 at the start of play and they were commenting on the speed of johnsons progression. he's only played tests for australia for 16months. has really come of age the last few tests. we saw a similar thing when mcgrath first retired, lee really stepped up to the plate. johnson seems to stepping it up now.

i was only commenting to my brother today as to whether clark should be an automatic inclusion once fit, not to mention lee. personally i would like to see lee back in the squad. i wouldn't judge him on this summer's performance as he wasn't 100%. i think him and johnson together would be a great fit. clark and siddle play a very similar role although siddle seems more dangerous at times. clark has that mcgrath type line and length though.

this tour isn't making it any easier for the selectors if you ask me. lock in 1-7. i'm a massive symmo fan but unfortunately north has done nothing wrong. symmo is probably a little more versatile if they decide to play a specialist spinner though. he can give them another medium option and often gets wickets.

shane watson and phil jaques are two more victims of circumstance.

whoops, took to long to type, hughes has moved to 76

Well, well, well. At stump on day 3 Aus is sitting pretty at 3/292 with Hughes making 136 of them, that's just 2 runs short of RSA's total off his own bat. we have a lead of over 500 with 2 days play left.

I honestly can't see pitch conditions varying this wildly over 3 days, pretty safe to say that RSA's downfall was all their own doing.

i wonder if hughes can score a minimum of 14 more to keep his trend going. so far his scores are 0, 50(75), 100(115), 150? that would put him on course for a double in the third test :

should australia send out any bowlers or declare? i would almost garauntee they'd get a little 'chin music' if they do so best to declare i think. probably won't be required anyway.

anyone else keeping an eye on the england v west indies series. this latest one the poms have so far bowled 61 extra's. thats no typo folks. thats pretty ordinary. after our summer the poms at work were all vocal about the ashes. now i'm having my turn
