Yep - Engaged

I was approached in 1994 at work.

One of the others told him to come back tomorrow because he didn't have the cash on him and he was getting paid that night and that he would buy some.

They never came back.....even for a sale.....I didn't realise it was a scam...ha ha ha

I read this thread when it first came up...and maybe 3 months ago I was crossing the pedestrian crossing at The Glen when I saw the van. When I was in the middle of the crossing, they asked me (I realise now in hindsight) "Want to buy some speakers?", but misunderstanding them (I thought they were abusing me for walking in front of their van -most people don't stop at that crossing), I replied, "it's a pedestrian crossing", and walked off.

About a minute later, I realised who they may have been.

Regardless, I don't want speakers.

I'd prefer a new motherboard, CPU and sound card.

I was lead to believe that with China's rising economy their quality of goods was rising. With a name like Denmark Audio, they would be top quality!!!

OMG, this dude came in work a few months back, Went on with a story on how he got all the speakers and he wants to clear them out. I didnt get any because he seems dodgy. He was selling Magnus and Larson speakers aswell. One dude done all the talking and the other dude (older) sat in the passengers side and didnt say a word. I work at VW in Mentone (Nepean Highway)

yeah I've had them come up to me twice, Once about 18 months ago at the Shell Servo in Melton, Driving a brand new Kia Pregio van with two big dents in the side, looked pretty suss and I told them to bugger off. The second time was about 2 months later at the same servo, different Kia van and the same speel, Do you want to buy a brand new home entertainment system? only $300, Yeah right, if it's too good to be true, it usually is.

I got done in Oakleigh walking to the shop on my lunch break about 2 months ago. White van pulls up along side me, one bloke says do you wanna buy some cheap speakers, excess stock. He shows me a reciept with a sold stamp on it. I either thought HOT! or bodgy broken stuff. I just said, sorry mate, got no money on me...

cheers

same guy?

This is the scum bag who calls him self Joe, wondering if he is the same guy who calls him self Ari? It's quite possible his real name is Oliver though, an Oliver who went for criminal trail on the 5th and 8th May at the County Court

To anyone who's fallen for this, did you ever wonder what would happen if you got home and they didn't work? What recourse do you have?

I do plenty of online trading, but always from places where I'm fully protected. Buying something like speakers from the back of a van seems absolutely ridiculous to me.

I put it in the same category as Nigerian or Lottery scams. I'd much rather pay a little bit extra for a warranty and guarantee of quality.

Was the van a white Kia? One pulled up outside our work last week and offered us speakers.

Default guys in altona

these guys were in altona on tuesday 16/07/08 borrick square, at lunch time. if it's a real scam these boys have balls of steel as the cop shop is across the road. a black guy & a lebbo both spoke with aussie accents both in their early to mid 20's. in a plain white HIACE van of a least a few years old. the story they use is pretty much always the same from what i can gather. two sets of home theatre systems 1 silver & 1 black. both in sealed boxes rg digital brand. told me they were worth $4500 but offered them for $1300. had them talked down to $500 but they were not happy or so they made out. my advice is know your stuff, check them properly & offer them peanuts. if you still get them cheap good on you if you don't know much about this stuff stay away. :togo:

"dream_hifi" on ebay sell home theatre speakers, i got two towers with 4 subs, a mid driver and tweeter, and a centre with 2 mids and a tweeter and 2 surround with mid and tweeter, $275...

put them on a $1000 pioneer amp and jebus kriist. They go so hard and sound great, the amp shuts down before they distort!

my guess is these people are probly selling much the same. While the quality may be there, don't get fooled by the $4500 "RRP" (Real Ripoff Price) they say ;)

had 2 irish guys in white hertz van approach me yesterday at work. "mate we have just left an exhibition in the city and we have a heap of left over stock we must get rid of cause we are flying out tonight". i thought here we go, more speakers. they explained to me theyve got 4.5kva honda generators. went outside for a look and they had about 10 brand new genie's. not honda but scorpion and nowhere near the power rating they claimed. they started at $950 a piece if i took the lot. then went down to $750 a piece and started getting a little aggressive. i know for a fact they retail at $550 so i offered them $100 a piece. he got nasty and asked if their was something wrong with my head. so i explained that they are trying to sell 5hit stock for a top dollar and asked him whos head needs checking. he got more and more upset while his mate was saying lets go, he;s wasting our time. they drove off while i gave them the one finger salute.
so it seems these clowns are expanding now, not just 5hitty speakers but also 5hitty chinese import tools as well. funny when they were argueing that they were honda!!

I had two blokes in one of those Kia Pregio vans pull along side me on Lower Dandenong Road yesterday and ask me if I wanted a surround sound system. I politely said “no thanks” so they asked the bloke in front of me and who was in a Commodore and I’m guessing that he said the same thing.

Heard on the radio this morning that the white van scam guys approached a person in Brighton Melbourne and rolled out the pitch about these brilliant speakers and needing to offload the stuff below cost…except that they were pitching to a retired Senior Seargent…who then called 000 and called in the cavalry...who then enlisted the salesmen to "help with their enquires"

Now that I think about it unless the gear is stolen or counterfit what can they be charged with exactly?

They came up to me in the petrol station the other day, again.

I was walking from my car into the petrol station when the van pulls (a blue van - they must be undercover lol!) He says "Excuse me buddy, I know this might sound a bit crazy but you wouldn't happen to be into home theater?"

Right away I started laughing and walking off, "I've heard of this one" and he's like "Heard of what? Heard of what?" getting kind of arky.

Well I looked back and read his rego plates out taking note, and he got all worried and wound up the window and drove off!

They're down in Hobart. Last night, Kingston service station.

I was filling up the GT, white HERTZ van pulls up, two blokes jump out, one fills, the other proceeds to slap white magnet sheet over the HERTZ decals....

"Hey buddy - wouldn't be after a hi end, home theater set up would ya - work out a great price........." Fellar 1 walks over, and asks me again....

I said hang on, went in & paid, and when I came back Fellar 2 slides open the van door, and bugger me, it was loaded full of boxes of speakers etc. I said let me check it out, they say me us over in the other carpark so I follow them.

This stuff doesn't really look legit, the print quality on the cartons, the pics, and a price actually pre printed onto the cartons reading $5990. That's not a typo! The specifications talk in PMPO and are not inspiring if you have some idea about audio ( hi fi my ***)

Fellar 2 got a bit antsy when I pulled open a box to get the 'amp' (ha ha, what a joke..) out. By this stage I figured something wasn't right.

Fellar 1 whips out a clipboard with a delivery docket for 12 complet systems- and they have collected 13.......... so..., they then go on to tell me that they rang their boss, and he said if they could flog it on the way back to the shop, they could keep the $$$$. Yeh right. So what is the name of the shop" I ask. Ever seen a delivery docket with no business name(s) at all.????

Fellar 2 by this stage is all flustered, snaps at me "well do ya want one or not?"

"Yeh, I think I do" me returns.

"But, I tell you what, give me a couple of minutes to think about it, and I call you back. I'll then meet you and we can work something out. $1000 bucks yeh? Give us your number, and I'll give you a call. I'll duck over to the bank and grab some cash."

Fellar 1 says they haven't got a 'phone, and a couple of seconds later fellar 2 says, Nah, I've got one, hang on -------> and he writes his number down for me. :

I had never heard about this scam before, but now having done some research, it appears to be quite common. I was actually going to post seperately - but did a search first.... phew.

So, the question is, should I post the number for everyone to say hello to the dirt bag? :evil3:

I got approached a few years ago in Sutherland, Sydney by the speaker van guys. I'd read about them but never thought I'd get approached in my home suburb!

Two guys stopped me at the lights going onto falcon st towards mosman after you get out of the harbour tunnel.

"Hey man, this might be a crazy question but would you like to buy a mad home stereo system? I'll do a good price"

I just told him i had no money and off he went
