I think the best shot would be for GM to sell Holden to PSA - and Holden becomes an outlet for rebadged Opels.

At the very least this would allow perhaps some consistency in the product line up unlike what they have done to their own detriment over the past 20 years.

Holden is owned by GM in the US?
They're selling volume is within a couple of hundred cars compared to Ford, that's owned by Ford US?
If we (ford) didn't have the Ranger, would that mean Ford would be pulling out of OZ?

GM has pulled out of europe. UK is rhd. Not sure what other rhd countries GM is in but word is they aren't interested.

Actually just read they left India and South Africa so Aus would be one of the last rhd countries for them.

To be fair, the epica was already in existence when GM bought the ashes of daewoo, they had to use it to get their money’s worth. The real up yours came out of the Captiva, which gm tarted up and sold for what 12 years

Correct! Australia, New Zealand and Thailand are the only major RHD markets left for GM. They do sell in small numbers in Malaysia, Singapore and other smaller RHD Asian countries, but they're tiny numbers.

They've left the UK, Japan, South Africa, Indonesia and also India, but they still use India as an export base for their products to other developing markets.

If Ford pull out of the UK, then yes, the same could happen to Ford in Australia, but as long as Ford is in the UK, then I think we're safe …. for now.

Big difference is Ford Aus is profitable, and can source cars from itself.

Holden must be unprofitable or making very little $ having to slash RRP's just to move cars, on top of having to source vehicles from outside companies. Not to mention GM just does not give a fig about RHD markets now.

Ranger goes to 180+ countries so is available in pretty much all the RHD markets. That keeps it safe. Plus it's very profitable and most of the work is done here.

I gather that Holden was offered as part of the Opel Vauxhall sale but PSA declined...
PSA also wants to end GM legacy products ASAP and move to its own platforms..

Holden was dead as soon as the VF finished. We all knew it, and they did too.

Opels didn't sell when they were Opels and they don't sell when they are rebadged as Holden either.

I've seen more Camaros the last week then I have seen fake 'Commodores' and they cost 90k and need to be converted to RHD!

In my opinion Holden lost their way when they gave up their Euro products in favour of the old Daewoo models. They were terrible cars, cheap and nasty and went against everything Holden was trying to promote themselves as.

One has to wonder how they would have fared if they never got rid of Euro Barina, Astra, Vectra and the like.

Adelaide has always been Commodore country. It took easily at least 6 months after they were released for me to see one in the wild, but now they are actually reasonably common again here. Would see a handful every day and I only travel for about 25 mins each way.

Without the prejudice, they aren't a bad car.

I'm sure some of the dyed in the wool buyers think that way also, but many clearly don't. Disregarding Commodore nameplate sales history, and disregarding Camry, it is actually selling quite well compared to the rest of the mid size cars.
