The 18 inch rims in 2008 would have set you back $1500? a Vt which was then only 10 years old if in good nick would have been worth 10g if in good nick . Hence the wheels were probably worth more than the car .
Giving a warranty on an unregistered vehicle seems strange but anyway as long as both parties were happy that is all that counts . I would hazard to guess both dealers involved were happy anyway . |

MM. Wow, you’ve bought such a nice car, you’re going to need some quality car mats to go in it. FN. Naa, don’t think so. MM. But you’ve got to have car mats. FN. Yeah, well what do you have? MM. We have these fantastic FPV car mats that would look great in your new car. FM. Really, but I only need one set. MM. Confused??? FN. It’s a GT-P and come standard with FPV car mats, so I won’t be needing a second set. MM. What about paint protection? FN. I do my own detailing, in fact, I have a room full of trophies from car shows with previous cars. I use clay bars, M-Ron Glass polish and Maguire’s wax, so I’m pretty right in the paint department. MM. What about window tint, we can do that. FN. I have a bloke I use over the other side of town who tints all of my windows. MM. We could certainly do a competitive price for you. FN. It’s a GT-P, not a Fiesta. I don’t care about saving $100 on window tint. The bloke I use does a great job, uses high quality film and does them as dark as I want. MM. We can only do them legal. FN. Sorry to disappoint you but you’re not really going to get much out of me. The whole time I was really polite and totally understood that she’s just doing her job, but I just didn’t need any of their crap. One thing that does get my back up is when they insist on giving you a bunch of flowers when you pick up your new car. I’m not a big believer of blokes giving other blokes flowers. They did this with my first XR8 and said just give them to your missus. This annoyed me because if I want to give my missus flowers, I’ll bloody well go out and buy them. This car is for me and I don’t appreciate flowers. Every other new car I’ve purchased since, I tell them at the beginning, NO FLOWERS. So they give me a couple oil filters instead. Suits me.

Lol at the Ming Mole. The one I dealt with when I bought my Bionic BF F6 in the day was hot. Damn hot! However, I made it very clear the condition of purchase of any product she wanted to sell me was that she wine me, dine me and @# me.
Suffice to say I didn't part with a cent. It cracks me up they start off selling paint protection, rust proofing and fabric protection for $2500 and just before you walk out the office they're offering it for less than $500. Just demonstrates the garbage they're selling.

GasOLane I have to agree with you
I have lived a long time in Perth and then I moved to Wagga and then Broken Hill the difference in car sales is amazing in the city there is so much pressure to make a sale and some times you feel that In wagga and Broken Hill both cases take the car for a drive for a hour or so see what you think and when some none warranty issues came up no problem s I worked as a drive in spare parts for duncan nissan and some of the things the car sales guys told me at coffee time extra thick oil in a old holden/ford brings the compression up put a car in newspaper for sale at a cheap price when people turn up that car is sold cut and shut cars Much of the old tricks are now ilegal and covered by consumer law but like every thing there is the odd sale person who is not concerned by the law one guy moved to Broken Hill selling high millage ex hire cars he left town after 3 months at 3 am owing money to so many people he will get caught one day but there are so many who are hurt by this type of person

The only and best way to buy a car is with cash and no trade in I have have had over 3 grand knocked of prices and when it is under 10k price car that is great savings
Even if you have to go with credit get your own for a 2nd hand car that is as good as cash

I've only ever bought one brand new car off the lot - a '91 Corolla in '92 from Torque Ford/Toyota in Redcliffe, a run out model. The sticker price with on road cost/dealer delivery/12 months rego was $21,990 drive away. The car was on the lot with the colour I wanted and everything else except A/C. The salesman said they could fit aftermarket air for $2k! This was a sticking point for me as I'd done some homework and could get aftermarket air for $900 at the time. The salesman wasn't pushy at all. If I strike a pushy salesman I walk away and tell them why.
Two days back and fro and I'd got him down to $19,500. I mentioned to a mate what I was looking at and he asked who was the salesman as he knew someone there. Turns out it was the same bloke and a day later I drove off in the Corolla for $18,990 - Win! It's not what you now, it's who you know. Torque were desperate to get the runout models off the lot as it turns out. I don't blame them for trying to get top dollar from the consumer. That's the salesman's job after all. I've never been in a position to buy a new car since. I always buy good used cars from private sellers. No warranty and buyer beware though. You can tell a lot about the appearance of the owner, talking to the owner and how their home presents itself. I haven't been caught out yet. Cheers!

Had a quite irritating experience with Oldmac Mazda at Springwood in Brisbane. Looking at getting into a brand new Mazda 6 GT for a daily and wanted to compare the Diesel and Petrol.
The wife and I went in on the Saturday and they advised that the only Diesel 6 the had to drive wasn't there that day. No worries I said, lets book a time and I will come back to drive them (petrol demo was available and the boss's Diesel one would be back) on the Tuesday at 1:30pm.. I organized to have the afternoon off work to go and see this salesman (who is also the assistant manager) and compare the cars. Rocked up to be told not only is the Sales Guy I was dealing with on an RDO BUT the Diesel car was not there.. I mean come on.. An appointment was made, if it was your RDO that's fine but don't bloody organize for me to take time off work for a day you wont be there.. I wasn't happy and the poor guy who gave me the bad news was quite helpful and I ended up driving the petrol one and tee'd up to go back and drive the diesel one this weekend (Saturday). Rocked up again, no bloody demo to drive again... Had a Diesel wagon in the lot that would have just needed a trade plate. Told me they couldn't do that (even though at that same time someone else came back in with a 3 on a trade plate) and wanted to book a 3rd time!!! I mean really, I wanted to buy the car from these guys, gave them 2 chances but where still surprised when I told him if its too hard don't bother, I will go to another Mazda dealer, maybe they will want to sell me a car...

The internet has sharpened up car sales people, they know that you have looked on the net, they know what is on the net, they sell cars to all over Australia because of the net, don't be scared to tell them that you have searched the net and that is not a big deal for you to travel to another State to get the car you want, my son bought a G6E from Sydney and a Nissan Patrol wagon from Brisbane, he lives in central Victoria

I was looking at a '99 Skyline at a yard, jump in and start it and the engine light is on. So I go back in to the guy and he says "oh yea we're sending it to the mechanic to have that fixed" so I say I'll come back when it's done to test drive it, no problems he says, we'll call you. Two weeks later I get a call "Hi you can come and test drive the car now" then he goes to hang up on me and I have to stop him and ask what the problem was "oh it was the groomer, he water blasted the engine and the light came on" ohhk thanks but I've found another vehicle. I can't believe they are still using that one, and also why did it take two weeks to scan and erase the error code ha-ha, dealers aye.

Had the same thing a few years ago from Jarvis on Portrush road. Had the money in my pocket but no-one to be seen anywhere. Went to Stillwell Ford instead & bought one there.

I never understand this. If you are that serious, how hard is it to walk inside and ask to speak to a salesman?

"I just want you to be fully informed and aware of the best way to maintain the value of your car".. she must have said that line a dozen times - making it out like she was doing us a favour by selling these products! Then she tried to flog the dealer backed extended warranty... "And this company is very good - in all the years I have worked here I have never heard them refuse or decline a claim"... Had I not had the wife kicking me under the desk to get out of the joint I would have stayed longer and debated that statement with gusto!

The dealers can try what they like with me.
I have a reasonable price in mind and I stick to it. I've only been desperate once to buy a car (cause I effectively blew the motor on a hand me down Camry and was working up in the country) and even then it wasn't to bad of a price as I got a new car cheaper then the second hand ones on the lot and it was a manual. Normally you can see when a salesman is trying to rip you off. Its fairly easy buying a car. You know a reasonable price for the car and if the salesman is willing to negotiate then we can make a deal. Always have finance ready (I'm always surprised that people wait till they're at the dealer) if required. Never go in desperate. Don't buy cars on a whim. You get to have more fun at the servicing. But the Ford dealer near me has actually gotten much better. So much so went back to them after some quite ordinary experiences by the independents.

Another tip I have had to learn the hard way is not to show emotion on one particular vehicle. Car sales persons can see when someone is so infatuated with a car that they play on it and you'll find yourself caving in a higher price to seal the deal.
If you go in and treat it like any other car, cash in hand, without a worry in the world, you will have a better chance of getting something for a better price.
