250? Nope.
That bike almost looks rideable. Your shock at what happened and the bike being so damn close to you would have seemed like it "flew" past you. The main reason is he was up and moving and not spread all over the road...I've unfortunately seen the results of an impact of a head on with a bike (BMW R series tourer) with a car at 110 (car was doing 100 coming the other way) and the biggest part of the bike left was the main part of the engine and the shattered wheels. The rider and pillion (two people from our bike club) weren't pretty, and they had full leathers and full face helmets. |

Not sure why you guys are so hung up on why the bike isnt completely destroyed. It wasnt a direct collision. As I stated it hit the other car which is quite low, most likely got some deflection and maybe a little airborne (witnesses said this) and simply sideswiped my car and continued down the road and fell over in the dirt a few hundred metres up the road on the other side. Im not hugely surprised there isnt massive damage to the bike.
We all know freak accidents occur, and not everyone dies the way they "should" given the statistics. Just look up russian dash cam videos to see some spectacular crashes that people walk away from. The incredible amount of know-it-alls on here is almost a complete deterrent to post on here at all. And not that it is ANYONES business on here, my brother and his partner died on the road a couple years ago, so justifiably I am particularly angered at people who endager others lives like this guy did. There's simply no need to ride the way this guy did in such traffic conditions.

Who knows, I could post a pic of my car and it'd no doubt be picked apart on here and told how the damages to it aren't consistent with the damage on the bike and the nature of the collision, and that it simply doesn't add up and im in shock and the dents actually don't exist.

I'm sory but how are you any more of an "expert" than the witnesses that actually witnessed it?
And I never said he got up and simply waltzed around without a care in the world. Yes he got up after a minute or so, screaming, bleeding and skin hanging everywhere, fingernails hanging off and slowly limping to the side of the road. He may have had any number of internal injuries. It just appeared not to be what I would deem life threatening at the time, as he did get up, no doubt pumping with adrenaline. But hey, im no medical expert, perhaps someone on here can telle the exact injuries he would have sustained? I have a good friend who was once riding his motorcross bike offroad, flat tack 5th gear powerband (about 120ish km/h), hit a massive wooden power pole head on, the forks broke free of the top triple clamp, went flying up the road and he landed on the forks and the pin that goes theough the headstock impaled his right side of his chest. He had a broken pelvis and broken fingers and cracked ribs. He was conscious the whole time, and hes fine. This rider yesterday collided with cars going the same direction, hardly a head on impact with a stationary object.

Yes but 250kph...people would have just seen him going faster than everyone else and had a rough guess. Formula 1 Cars do an average speed of around 250-270 kph on most tracks, to say someone wearing a t shirt and shorts was doing that speed and didn't go splat... 140-150 lets you fly by cars doing 100kph.

How about all the keyboard experts cut the OP some slack.
He was in an accident that wasn't his fault, things weren't handled well by the police ( they are human and can make mistakes) and he is concerned. Last think he needs is "experts" giving him a hard time because they obviously know more than those present at the time!!!! Remember the meaning of expert... X is an unknown quantity and a spurt is a drip under pressure

LOL looks like the Ford Forums Serious Crash Unit has finally arrived. Good one guys, right on cue... Jesus Christ.
Good to hear everyone's not dead, could've been much worse (though I'm no expert like some of you champions, so I can't say that with certainty) |

I don't don't know what WA coppers are like but in Vic they will not provide you with the other parties details to you or your insurer, on a rare occasion it may be on the report which takes months to get. So good luck.
I'm a little harse to riders who don't wear leathers, etc. It's a shame he got up and walked after. I feel sorry for the paramedics after an incident like this. My advice is to lodge claim to get your car fixed and try and forget the whole thing. Sure your excess will apply but that is something you will have to live with.

If some of these expert would read 'the bike stayed upright' then ran of the road at a slower speed. So anybody that ride bikes would know that sports bikes like this are very stable at speed. And if it wasn't sliding or tumbling down the road then of coarse there wouldn't be as much damage to the bike. If traffic was cruising around 100kph and the bike hit, that rim of the Lotus that hard to cause that damage, then yeah he was traveling at a fair rate of knots. Maybe not 250kph but would be up around the 200kph mark, so by the time he shat himself and braked before hitting the Lotus he would of washed off a bit of speed. Then the impact a bit more, but still fast enough to go airborne land then hit the OP car. So he might of hit the road around 120kph an hour, but the bike was still upright until it slowed down and went of the road and layed over in the grass.
So why should the bike have anymore damage? And the rider could be a lot worst don't forget adrenaline is a very powerful drug. I come off my CR 500 in top gear after hitting a waterway in a paddock. I was knocked out for a little while, but when I came too I got up, kick my bike over and rode home. When I got home I couldn't put my feet down and just feel off the bike. My mate who lived there and my missus had to carry me to the car. When I was sittting it the car I notice my wrist was broken as it was a weird shape. As we arrived at the hospital my missus had to ask for a wheelchair because I couldn't walk. After they X-rayed me I had cracked my pelvis and hips, I was in traction for quite a while. |

I had some bloke come through a give way sign a few years back and I cleaned him up big time. He and his missus were taken to hospital. The police at the scene gave me all of his details. Quote:
I’m quite surprised that the police don’t ditch their radars and just go by witness accounts of speed, could be a good little earner for state governments. Sarcasm off. Yep, it looks like it feel off its stand.

So the OP blows his top...nice work.
I don't know how anyone can be the judge of speed when the vehicle is approaching you from behind? So how does the OP know the rider was doing 200+, because of the witnesses', well they aren't experts are they... We don't know the extent of your damage, like hell you wouldn't have taken photos of your own car, you have taken photos of the other vehicles.. You've probably got them plastered all over FB for your mates to see and support you. I don't understand why you keep saying it wasn't a 'direct impact', clearly it was for the open wheeler and yours was just on deflection. Smashing the edge off an alloy rim isn't overly difficult, looking at the bike both tyres are inflated, forks even look straight. Clearly not a 200k+ hit. Considering your reaction in this thread...I can only imagine how much carry on there was at the scene...maybe that's why the cops bailed? |

What's the go guys? Why are we attacking the OP?
He was obviously shocked due to the events. Maybe he miscalculated the speed. Maybe not. It's certainly a serious crash when a rider hits 2 cars and comes off their bike. How about we put the pitchforks away for the moment.
