What I found interesting was when I was in NZ this time last year, there didn't seem to be any flies, in the 6 cities I went to.

Yep, I've not noticed flies in NZ. I was really surprised to be at a full blown bbq & seafood bbq on an island off Viti Levu where none of the foord was covered at all. Not one single fly to be seen.

The western australia border was set by the portugese years before sydney was settled and is the oldest border in oz.

The term 'furphy' comes for galipoli when the water barrels down at the beach were made by 'furphy and sons' and when the men came down from the trenches to get water they would hear all the rumors going around, diggers would ask where did you here that at furphy & sons and shortened to 'furphy'

The term you've got bucklys comes from a covict that escaped from the first settlement in victoria (mornington penisular) and lived with the aboriginies for years before being found and pardoned and then became a guide for settlers in the geolong area so when someone says you have bucklys chance he actually servived. sorry for my spelling

There were two races here before the current aborigines that they wiped out hence they are not the first Australians but the third

i believe it was considered at the time that NZ and PNG might want to join australia, so the federal govt doesn't need permission from the states to create a new state.
