i am very sceptical as to weather these cars will incraese in value or not.my guess is that they will not increase in value for many reasons.

my first guess is that this exercise was done for the same reason the original cobra was made.and that was because they needed to shift a large number of coupe bodys that were left in ford hands with the new model looming.the only thing was the new model then being xd was only offered in a sedan and not a coupe.

the original cobra was only a coupe whereas the new one is only a sedan allong with every other ba ever made.the only way this car would have increased in value is if it was made as a coupe.

in the old cobra days people did not think they were all that special back then and they even had truble selling them, with some lying around for many months on the showroom floors.because of this people did not take extra special care of them and many were to rust out or go to the graveyard.
because of that there are now not so many around and this is another reason for the high prices.now with these new ones ,these guys will think they have something superspecial and will take care of it like no tommorrow and maybe only driving it on dry weekends to preserve it the best they can.becuase of this there will always be plenty of this model in pristine conditon with low kms and thats makes much easier to knock the price down knowing that i can find a pristine one elswhere if need be .that is not the case with the old cobra.
by the time they hit the streets it will 3 months until the new shape arrives, taken the shine of it very quickly.

it has no bathurst racing history like the old cobra.i could go on and on but the reality is if you want a real investment of aussie muscle you must by an origal cobra.it will also be outpowered by the gt in 3 months with 320 ,taking more shine away.there will always be those who will tire of this overhyped decision to buy a so called cobra and sell up for a real muscle car.

Bottom line is that nobody knows. No one knew the Baby Boomers would go crazy buying 70s muscle cars at grossly inflated prices. If we had, more of us would have bought 70's vehicles when they were so much cheaper (which wasn't that long ago) as an investment.

I wouldn't buy an XC Cobra for $60K - $80K as I don't think its worth it. You're paying speculative prices for what is nowadays a poorly engineered vehicle. IMO people are nuts paying $250,000 upwards for a 70's muscle car and hoping it will appreciate. What if 2007/2008 is the peak of the market and these vehicles start to loose value. If a selling stampede happens then their value will drop like a brick.

What if Gen Y isn't interested in 30 yr old vehicles that rust, had poor brakes, little safety features, poor suspension, handling and low output engines. What if their next favourite vehicle is the limited production run FPVs and HSVs of today?

The advantage of the Cobra GT is that you are getting a great looking limited edition vehicle for a reasonable price (if you got one around the $71K on road cost). It may substantially appreciate in value but even if it doesn't, it won't depreciate like a standard GT or even a standard Orion GT.

Clearly the Cobra GT appeals to a lot of people as whilst there still might be a few available at dealers around the country, a hell of a lot sold in a short time.

The Cobra GT engine makes 302kW at 6000rpm which means it'll be more willing to rev than the current 290's plus the extra 20Nm (which peaks 250rpm higher than the 290's) will give the Cobra a nice boost aswell...

now that all fpv's have the 302kw motor, i can see down the track when they hit the 2nd hand market people will have to pay close attention to the build date and spec plate to make sure they are getting what is being advertised.
What makes you think all FPV's now have 302kW?

Gee, Smoked - I hope you can get some sleep tonight! ;)

I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm sure no-one at Ford is.

All the FPV v8s are now gonna be built with the 302 engine... but rumour has it there'll only be about 50 left after the Cobra builds... Could be worthwhile getting a 302 Force 8... that would be relatively rare.

in years to come who is going to want a force 8 when they can get a GT maybe its just I have been involved with Fords my whole life but seriously GT is and has been the flagship of ford motorsport and enthusiasts. My view is that if your a Ford car lover by the time BA's are collectable the force 8 will just be another falcon where as the GT will be a GT. thats my view right or wrong I doubt whether it really matters either, they are great and not just for the power, they are one of the most solid safe feeling cars I have ever driven so if you dont have one and you love them you should definately try and get one 290, 302 whatever _

agree dave. But in saying that, the thought of a Force 6 or 8 appeals to me as its something different. Id buy one of those not for the nostalgia, but for appeal. I know you'd never get the resale that a GT would but if your not worried, who cares right?

Either way, the consumer is the winner regardless if you own a Cobra, GT(P), Force, Phoon or whatever.

Celebrate the feeling of driving legendary cars.

To be honest I'm not so sure about that. I think in a few years to come the Force range will be a harder find and potenially more exclusive especially the Force6. I guess time will tell.

perhaps. its just that the GT is iconic so it has history as previously mentioned going for it. Other than that, as you said, time will tell.
