Too much road bikes in here Got the old rocky out for a spin in the hills. First time in a month. Motivation lacking. Sold my Giant a few weeks back to fund some Reno's and whilst it was a brilliant bike, I didn't use it to it's full potential.

I use a Garmin also. I upload the rides on to strava. There are a few different platforms to keep track of your activities but strava is by far the most popular.

Trying to buy/find a new Mountain Bike at the mo and there's bugger all around in what im after. Im chasing a 29er with 2x drive train in L or XL frame for around <$2k, plenty of smaller frame sizes and plenty of 1x drive trains available, seems many retailers around Aus have been waiting on stock for a while now and most not sure when it will arrive, before Xmas the choice was limitless, now nothing........bloody COVIDS

One of the guys i spoke to yesterday joked that the way things are going he will probably receive his 2021 stock before the rest of his 2020 arrives.

What's everyone using as far as bike computers are concerned?
I just bought the Wahoo Elemnt BOLT. Coming from a Garmin 500, this thing is awesome and so easy to set up and use.

Still running my edge 500. Never had an issue with it until two days ago where the file was corrupt and wouldn't upload. Did a factory reset and all good again. It's been insinuated it belongs in a museum but it does the job for me. When it dies I'll get something with Bluetooth. Probably stick with Garmin.

Seriously though, before you shop for one, make sure you check out the Wahoo features on this. Its stupidly easy to set and all via a smart phone app. Has bluetooth connectivity for instant Strava uploads. Has the Live tracking option for anyone you want to see where you are at any given time. That is something you can opt out of too, but generally if you specify an email contact for Live tracking, it will give them a notification that you are mobile and they can see exactly where you are on the move. The battery life on the unit is awesome too. 15hrs straight with back light on. https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/tr...t-bolt-review/

You might like this scene from the classic movie, American Flyer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8uP-dxllKQ Most of us cyclist have experienced this at least once.

Well it finally happened. First time since my teenage days I copped a puncture while on a ride. I noticed the bicycle was bouncing while I was pedaling which was due to a slow leak in the rear tyre. Within 15 minutes there was no air. Too far to walk so called a mate to save me.

I always carry tyre levers, a co2 canister and a tube, however a few weeks back on my homeward commute I punctured about 2km from home in the pouring rain and blowing a gale. About 10pm. Just couldn't be bothered so rang the wife.

Must be puncture season.
Got one Tuesday, exactly half way into a trail ride, yep thought I had a spare tube. Real bummer was, it's the same distance to keep going with a deflating tyre as it was to go back the same way. Walked the last km back into town.

Sure if it helps but if your trying to get fit then an unefficient mountain bike is better. Also stay off roads as you lose allot of weight when your dead

I haven't had a puncture since I was a kid. Haven't really ridden the bike properly for a while now, but used to clock up a few km on it. From memory, chains would last about 8,000km, gear sets every 3 chains. Derailleur every 2 gear sets. Tyres, 5,000km, and I'd go through 2 1/2 pairs of tyres a year. Did that for about 5 years solidly, then tapering off as I decided driving was probably a better idea. I think the last proper ride I did was when we were waiting for a new car to show up, and that was 2010. The bike I bought in 2002, which is still my only bike, has some original parts so it's not like grandad's axe, but those parts are the frame, head set and seat. And the seat's been torn for years. I'd replace it, but I can't actually afford to buy something equivalent and because it's nearly 20 years old, my old bike has almost zero value if I sold it. Kind of funny, new guy at work mentioned he rides a bike and all the rest. He's not seen me in shorts yet, but I suspect he'll lay an egg when I do. I don't ride much any more, but somehow retained the legs from it. But again, never had a puncture on it. Flat tyres yes, but actual punctures while riding that stopped me riding, not a one. I was paranoid about it and carried a repair kit and pump when I rode all the time, but never needed it. If anyone cares, it's a 2002 Trek 4900 Alpha. Fox Vanilla 125RLC, mixed gearset of XT ****ers, XT front and XTR rear (mid cage) and compact 9 speed. XT crankset (first of the outboard bearing models), Avid mechanical disc brakes and a smattering of other parts. Very sure I can't replace it like for like without spending a fortune. And to the OP from many, many moons ago, yes, the bike makes a difference. Better frame and better parts are easier to ride, they last longer and they are much more reliable. Put a mate on mine the last time I took it out, and he couldn't believe how quick it was for a big ugly looking thing. Stu. |

word on the street says ineos (sky) won't be controlling the race this year too which is good, although they weren't overly dominant as a team last year yet still finished first and second with bernal and thomas. no froome or thomas this year.
