Join the US military and work your way to the top?
Or pay the tens of thousands required for china or someone to take pics for you? Apart from that google-earth is about as current as you'll get (as far as i'm aware of) |

Is this a personal "I just want it" reason or for something more serious I was of the understanding that you can get professional aerial photos completed and there are records of some sort somewhere.

I checked Google Earth last week and it has been updated. Usually your local council has aerial photos they use to check on unauthorised buildings etc. You could always try the Bureau Of Meteorology website. They have satellite images updated every few hours.
Here’s a link. http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/satellite/ Cheers, Danny

Try the World Wind by NASA.
http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/index.html Its similar to Google Earth, but I';m guessing it will be more up to date.
