I just received my quote for insurance and to be covered for theft and attempted theft I need to have an Australian Standard 2pt Immobiliser fitted to my car. Don't they come factory fitted? My car is a 2001 AU Series II SR..
If its not factory fitted, come someone help me out with what exactly is an Australian Standard 2pt Immobiliser? |

A 2pt immobiliser I think disables 2 different components vital to allow an engine to run. Smartshield is this type of immobiliser as it disables fuel & starter.

My insurance requires a 3 point passive arming immobiliser. But they also give me a discount on getting a certain brand installed.

I am going through Just Car Insurance, because AAMI won't cover the car any more because they allow only one modifcation for any driver under 25.

Just cars are expensive ... try Young and Cool ... or try Vigil if you are an U25 driver ... they are better.
Have heard Elders are good as well

Am looking at Just Cars because i am already insured with AAMI and just cars is AAMI's little brother. So transferring insurance will be very simple rather than a pain in the ****.. But thanks for the suggestions, will look into anyway..

Smartshield isn't the best of immobilisers!
If you want to know what they will accept, ask them.

I think it is a requirement of the manufacturers to build the vehicle with an Australian standards immobilizer.

This is strange they generally require 3 point immobiliser. An extra immobiliser must have its own remote ontrols and is an add on...so must carry 2 remotes.1 for central locking and one for the immobiliser.
