sometimes you can get them going again by giving the pump a bit of a helping hand. you'll have to pull it out and i think you can get a spanner on the shaft or something and try to spin it (the right way) and it may start again. i watched the guy do this to mine when i had the same problem a couple of years ago. i put a new one in anyway but it might get you going until you can chase up a new one.

I had a pump go, they're a piece of cake to replace, and not that expensive, well not 5 years ago anyway.
I think they're called a magna pump(there's the problem, it's a magna) from memory. Just unplug it and plug in the newby. I rang around to my local A/C dealers for a parts place. It's not blocked is it?, they get a build up of shale sometimes.

Yep they're just a big gold fish tank pump. If it's old buy a spare just for later because Murphys law says it will happen on a stinken hot long week end and nothings open.

I think people are overdependent on their air-conditioners.
I have not used an air-conditioner for years, and I spend 95% of my time at home in my room. I am on the western wall of the house so my room reaches high temperatures. Big waste of electricity. I keep my feet cool with a bucket of water and some ice added periodically. Helps me out. I then use the same water on the garden after it cools down.

I've been in education (teaching), and I've no interest in kids. So nice observation...even if it was with a big shovel...
