I would only put those stripes on my BA if it could perform as good as or better than a GT or GTP, otherwise it's like mutton dressed up as lamb, I see to many holdens driving with hsv bodykits and a bog standard 6 under the hood, we dont want to look like that.

Will have my F6 soon, and we know they are as good as, or better than a GT, but it won't be getting the stripe treatment

I have seen some dodgy stripes of late. One xr, they were not even on straight, let alone the right length...
Why bother doing it, if you can't even put them on correctly in the first place!

I reckon that no Aussie car deserves stripes except on Fords, as do bulges.
Abomination when Suzukis, Hondas and such use stripes (custom) to make the car look better. Fact: it makes it look **** and non-authentic.
Anybody else who uses them it simply somebody making their car something that it is not.

Stripes and the bonnet bulges seem to go well together...worked for the 70's muscle cars and they look great on modern muscle aswell.

Here's a pic of my baby, IMO she looks a million time's better with those LeMans style stripes...go FORD!!! :

Each to their own, I say depends on each individual car (colour, style etc)
Nothing to say they are just "GT" stripes but I dont believe that people who stripe their current XR's now should put on stripes that say FPV if the arent. Dress it up a bit and make it your own.

I like the stripes...I have them on my XR8...but then mine are also custom made...not that it makes too much of a difference,as they are still GT style I spose....any way I like them...JMO...

All strips and stickers are good, but leave them on what they came out on.
ie: gt strips for gt's only, if one day ford put a strip kit on the xr6/8 then thats wear those stripes belong, no mixing and matching between models.

my opinion, leave the stipes for the gt's but if u must have them HAVE THEM, as for the buldge. i see the buldge as the most sexiest thing ford have brought out, as well as the force6 bobtail spolier. being part of the ford family, xr6, xr8, f6, gt gt-p we should all share that beautiful curve that style of bonnet beholds.

when ur at the pub looking at which girl to go talk to, the skinny drowned rat(flat bonnet) or the nicely shaped girl with a nice **** and decent sized rack(buldge bonnet), which one are u going to take home? i think u would say the one with the good curves.

understandable if i saw a holden driving around with the buldge bonnet by ford. BUT WERE FAMILY let us share our older brothers fortunes.

I would only put GT stipes on a V8 model (with bonnet bulge of course!)

We had stripes and bulge stickers (obviously we put a bulge hood on first haha) on our G220, looked pretty bloody good if you ask me.

They can look good on non-Gts sometimes, but they can also look crap.

So far I've been called a try-hard, ****er and gimp amongst other things in this thread for having a XR8 with stripes and bulge decal. I guess I have more rotten fruit to be thrown in my direction when I say I have small discrete super roo decals too!

Personally, my red Falcon looks good with white stripes. I guess thats what you would call as my opinion and for those who dont like that, bad luck because I wont lose any sleep worrying about it.

There's a white AU Forte wagon getting around in Cairns, not only with stripes and bonnet vents, but GT P decals as well. :

Haha........Ive recently gotten blue BF tri style stripes down the side on my BF XR6T.

Given it was a winter white car it really needed something to liven it up and break the lines. (And stop everyone hitting the brakes when they see me coming up behind them thinking its a highway car!)

The stripes must make it go faster....cause no FPVs have kept up yet
(Disclaimer - I want a FPV myself!)

My two cents worth.....It's not so much that people can't afford an FP-V that they go for the stripes/bulge, or anything else "GTP"for that matter, on their non FPV BA/BF. It is more to do with the fact that they want to do more to their current car so get their ideas from cars like the GTP models...They see them in the street everyday going about their lives and think....hey..that looks good...I might do the same to my car!

I would not go as far as badging though. Then you really are giving the perception that you have something that you don't.

I've got a BA Classic (standard 183kw engine) on which i'm installing an F6 bodykit and some nice rims then some engine mods. Now I could go out and buy an FPV model tomorrow, but I ain't gonna rush out and spend $70 odd grand on a car that will only be worth $45k in 2-3 years time....I'm 44 years old and have other things, besides cars, that I'd rather spend my money on. So, instead I will make my current car more appealing, and yes, I will borrow some ideas off the FPV models (but not stripes or badges).

The GT label is sacrilidge and the term shouldn't be used on a "non GT" car IMO. However the success of the GT of the early 70's (case in point...a genuine XW GT purchased new in 1970 could be had for less than $5,000 then but is now worth over $100k) will never be repeated in todays models given the rapid depreciation I've mentioned above.

Thanks guys,,,good debate by the way
Pete

That's the sports pack - it's a factory option, not custom.
