Level 5 Water Restrictions

South East QLD is just about to hit Level 5 ...no washing the car at all at home now...except for windscreen and mirrors...DAMN !!

i havent had a problem with it yet. it is easier and quicker to take it down to a car wash anyway for me.

Yeah, we Mexicans have bitten that bullet already. I have it down pat now, using the local car wash, no brush, and a good wax after.

I have recently fitted 2 water tanks and after some storms have about 6000l of water to wash the car with.

You mean there's a water shortage in Melbourne?

I notice they've just filled a swimming pool in the Rod Laver arena for some swimming Championships. Still not sure why they needed it when we had the Commonwealth Games only a couple of years ago.

Also people are still allowed to fill their own backyard swimming pools and even new pools.

In the past when there were any water restrictions, the use of swimming pools, even public ones, were banned.

For the lawn and garden, get a 44 gallon drum and run the washing machine water into it. Milk it out with your garden hose, moving the hose on the lawn/garden about every 15 minutes.

Doing this, I have the greenest lawn in my street.

we actually have a pump in our machine drum to pump it out to the front lawn....i would also like to set up a sprinkler hose to attach to it, cant afford that one just yet

you'd be amased at the idiots that still have a shot at you for watering the lawn, een though you "are" using grey water to water with

Wish we could send some rain down your way ! A little over a week ago , we had over 2000 ( yes 2000 ) millimeters of rain in a 5 day period! In one 24 hr period we had 800 mm ,more than our whole average rainfall for march ! The pilbara area in WA is getting the same treatment at the moment, but they getting blown around at the same time .

No restrictions here at all in Northern NSW. I note you can now get a $1200 rebate if you fit a tank and it is hooked into the toilet or washing machine.

Speculation is that water rates will double or more in a few years. GC City Council have set goals for water usage for new premises and have decided to regulate tanks themselves.

For years they've got the water supply system wrong and stopped people putting in tanks and now the consumer has to pay.

Here we aren't allowed to use our auto sprinkler system untill after dark and can only wash the car if the wife does it. :the_finge

No restrictions here (im on a farm) and if the water wasnt dirtier than the gravel driveway i would be washing the car here, but its just as easy when i finish work to go to the carwash down the road, i can wash and wax the car in the bay, because no one is there at 10pm...

I am not god dam happy!!!! My car that was always immaculate now looks like a pig!!! The Qld govt is purely to blame for this. They should have built more dams 15years ago. Along with a desalination(think I spelt that right) plant.

I live on tank water .... water is precious any time ... I never wash the ute at home due to this.

The only time it gets a wash is when it rains ... and I leave it out in the rain.

When you live on property and tank water ... you actually gain appreciation for water and how valuable it actually is ... water restrictions are a way of life.

You can't blame the govt for the rain fall pattern.

As will be the case for many australians, rain or no rain, installing a rain water tank will be the norm, also there are plenty of waterless wash methods available that you can use or car washes.

a bit of a guide here on how to make and use your own waterless wash for better words as water is used but in a spray bottle.

That water will all be de-chlorinised and pumped, mostly to the botanic gardens. Very little will be wasted. Pee included :P

Does a set up like this work ok? Does that hose bit still have to be higher than the washing machine. Currently have a rental property with nearly the brownest lawn in the street. We have a front loader which doesn't use a lot of water but it all goes down the drain at the moment.

We pump out our grey water from our Bio-cycle system onto different paddocks to pasture improve ... and I can tell you ... it really greens the grass up ... and quickly as well. Good thing we have horses to rotate on yards to keep it in check.

water restrictions should have been around along time ago

as for govt wanting to increase the price of water to something 90% of the people wont be able to afford is just stupid, they were given more than enough time to improve water facilities....recycling (but seems everyone dont want to drink toilet water...grow up FFS drink it or die simple!), desalination plants...other countries have done it, and making dam walls higher or EVEN finishing the bloody dams (townsville) now we must foot the bill because they are stupid and cant do their job....it put it all on beatie the flog....hes useless

thats my view

as for water just have shorter showers and dont put the tap on full bore, install water tanks for things like washing car, watering garden and cleaning (ie washing machine, dishes, toilet flushing)

While the Government cannot be blamed for the lack of rainfall, they must shoulder some of the blame for not keeping up with urban sprawl. For 30 years I have watched Melbourne creep outwards to the sticks, and have seen no added catchments. We now see the limitations of a catchment system devised for a 60's population. And as usual, we are meant to suffer silently.

I can agree on that to some extent having lived on a property with tank (and later) bore water. Iv'e always been conservative with water but that goes back even before then to when I was a kid.

Even on a property with tank water, however, we could still wash the car. We always had water but never "wasted" it. The Pool could get topped up, the crap could be hosed from the tractors, the trees were irrigated and we could still wash cars and bikes.

The problem is nto a shortage of water. It's the hopeless supply system we have.
