Default Can anyone recommend a free antivirus program?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a free anti virus program. Mine's about to expire, and thought I'd try a free one this time.

Thanks,

Justin.

Thanks for the advice all! Grabbed the AVG anti spyware, but didn't realise they also did an antivirus for free, so I downloaded CA Antivirus. Anyone have any experience or feedback on CA (previously known as EZ Trust antivirus)?

Thanks,
Justin.

I tried CA for a while, while I was beta testing vista (it was the only Vista one at the time). I didnt mind it...but another vote for AVG free if you're after a free one...

Don't install anti-virus stuff anymore, just use online virus scanner from F-secure. That way you don't slow you PC down.

CA was released as VET antivirus locally if I recall correctly. Its meant to be really good.

Avast is a tad resource hungry though. I used to use AVG but tired of the continual updates. Basically with AVG is you miss an update or a week it wants to install them one by one and wwith a reboot in between it installs the next set of definitions which gets annoying. This process keeps going till you have all the updates.

Avast just installs the updates one after the other not one update per boot.

[edit]I prefer Avast as Avast found a few trojans that AVG didn't :(

I've had no end of problems with CA. Can you say blue screen of death?...
AVG is good, Pcilin is the only one that detected ALL the viruces in teh recent APCmag virus test. I Use Norton at the moment because of it's auto-updating parental control feature where it won't let kids see inapropriate content. It's a bit resource hungry though.

spybot search & destroy is also good. We have run both these in the past. It pays to run different ones, as they all dont pick up the same things.
