19" LCD Monitor....Which One ??

Hey Guys/Gals, being the computer illiterate that i am, i need a bit of advice.

I am going to upgrade my old 17" Samsung vga monitor with a lcd monitor.
Is it worth buying a well known brand ?? or are some of the cheaper ones ok ????

Well i got a 8ms Philips (190B)for $450 and its awesome.

Just make sure when you buy one with a half decent warranty (really important) and one with a reasonable response time (8ms or better)

From what ive heard some of the cheaper ones arent to bad

I would go for either a samsung or a viewsonic 19inch. They are pretty much the two best out there, but viewsonic is top of the line. If you want the best 19inch for screen quality, go a vp930b viewsonic. If you want the fastest in the world, go a VX922 viewsonic. The later is still very good quality and is the fastest. The next I recommend are any of the 19inch samsungs.

In the end, it also depends what you do with your monitor? Games, movies, or just desktop viewing and surfing?

i have a samsung 913v (19") i bought about 6 months ago and even though its a 12ms model its still a damn nice monitor. i went from a 19" samsung CRT to this one and the amount of sharpness and clarity on this one blew me away, awesome colour and no dead/blind pixels.

100% agreed Viewsonic has the best dead pixel warranty any dead pixels anywhere and its replaced with new one (excellent) and have very good monitors - resolution, refresh rates, clarity...etc

Dell 19" monitors are Samnsung and the 20" monitors are LG/Phillips.
I have a 24" Dell at work and it is awesome. Got a deal of 2 for the price of one from Dell. I want one for home now.
If you want to watch TV or movies or play hi graphic games, go for the fastest access speed - the lower the ms the better it is to see the frames (ie not as jerky)
If you want it for normal pc usage, then anything around the 16ms is great.
I have a Dell 19" Ultra-sharp I am on now and a Dell 17" ultra-sharp next to it (running 2 monitors at the same time) You can't beat the price and service.

viewsonic or LG are great.. get the lowest MS ping though.. it's amazing how much the prices have dropped... i remember when they were like $900+++... now you can pick them up for $300

I run a 24" Dell at home and its fantastic value. $1300 and I've never had any of my Dell gear fail so that must count for something.

Look at the write-ups in PC Authority magazine they're always helpful.

I bought 4 x 1905FP's 12 months or so ago. A friend was upgrading his law office comps/monitors (120 units) and tacked an extra 4 lcds on for me. At the time they were selling online for $865 and we got them for $485/unit.

Unfortunately, that was only a couple of months before WP's bulk buy of 2405FPW's (is that what you have?) which I would have held on for, had I have known it was going to happen...

2 of the 4 1905FP's get used a lot more than the others and to this stage there have been no probs with any of them.

My lcd monitor is an LG, I should point out it is a 17 inch not 19, I am happy with it, so check out an LG 19 inch. At the time I purchased mine, 19's where still a bit pricey, but 12 months later that has changed.

I have a dell 19inch monitor at work (for AutoCAD) and its fine... at home i have a phillips 19inch which has the 8ms response time and that is probably better (just a bit sharper) and great for games.
The response time only really applies to games though.... normal usage including watching movies it doesnt matter to much... but saying that, you might as well go for something around 14ms at most.. (generally cheaper brands have higher rates)

I also have a Dell 19" Flatscreen at home. They gave me the free upgrade to the 19" when I purchased the PC. Also threw in a set of surround speakers too! Haven't had a drama yet, and its quick as!

Using an ACER AL1916 19" LCD at work now. Pretty good for the price. Impressed with the quality of LCD over regular VGA. Will get one for the home pc later. Perhaps a 21" LCD. They are getting affordable now.

Im the same as you. I need a good screen for AutoCAD, its imperative to have a clear screen when working with intricate detail.

There are really only 2 or 3 LCD producers worldwide, which are bought andput in the manufacturers shells, so many montors will have the same quality. What you should be looking for are features that would be useful to you.

The 3 qualities recommend is warranty, long dead pixel exchange (some manufacturers coinsider 1 or 2 dead pixels as a acceptable) and inputs (having both DVI and VGA switchable is good)

I bought a CMV 17" CT-722A when 17"s were over $600. Still in use upstairs and after 3 years (or maybe 4 years?) has not missed a beat. No dead pixels and as clear as the day it was purchased.

I would not hesitate to buy another CMV.

Just bought an Acer AL1917 monitor (don't buy their notebooks) and it is the best image I have ever seen on a LCD monitor. Comes with DVI ports with all the cables and also has a 3 year warranty. Have a look at some of the reviews on the internet and it gets the thumbs up everywhere. Comes with speakers built into the monitor but they suck.

I just got a 19" Dell LCD for work. The picture is fantastic. I would recommend it no worries.

Check if they let you take it back for dead pixels and what their tolerance level is this can be seperate to their warranty!
