Default goodbye $9 an hour

just wanted to start a thread to say how good it is to finally be away from the crappy pay and being treated like , got a new job today at an abbitors. sure, its hardly glamorous but i'll smell like crap for $18 an hour, some of you may laugh at that but im 19 and been on $9 an hour for the last 4 years or about $250 per week. been looking for a full time job for 13 months so i can get away from the supermarket, cant wait to tell my nightfill manager to shove it. :thebirds: gonna go watch the fight tonight, but gotta start at 6 am and its a 30min drive... well yeah im happy now and if i can just get rid of this damn cold....

Are you working on the killing floor? As that can lead into a job in Butchering, which probably pays even more!
Congratulations!

Congrats mate.

If you think you've had it rough, ive never had a proper job and im 20, the only job ive had was pushing trolleys for $5 a hour when I was 18.

Consider yourself lucky, because luck hasnt been on my side the last few years or so.

It's gone up gradually since I started.. last rise is the biggest, $6 I think..
He wouldn't fire me... he needs me.. and would have to train someone else up and get them into a position where they can be trusted.. takes too long hahaha

Just dont burn your bridges as things like this can turn pear shaped and one may need to go back to their old job.

Good onya mate.

I worked at an abbotior a while back. I started out as a e kicker on the slaughter floor, got onto the knives, and after 8 months I was one of the slaughter floor leading hands, and getting $33.50 an hour.

It was hard work, as you'll find out. As an example: Cut pigs head of with 4 inch knife, sterilise knife, steel knife, all in 7 seconds. And do it 2000 times a day with no time to stop!!!!!!!

One of the things that will get you far at an abbotior is to make sure you turn up everyday. Never take sickies. Alot of people who work there will be drongos, and if you can show to your boss that you are not one of them you'll fly up the levels in no time.

Which abbotior you working at mate?

A young bloke at my work (who is a lazy bludger to put it bluntly) is sick of not getting much money and so came up with the brainwave of getting a second job at a supermarket packing shelves. This guy never works a minute longer than he has to with his current job, even though there is virtually unlimited OT available at the moment and the bosses are crying out for people to work, so I have no idea why he would want a second job.

Guys I know I'm a grumpy old fart...but consider this if you've got the education quals and are not afraid of being yelled at in the recruit stage ...look at becoming a FIRIE either state or federal...min wage upon qualifying 55/60k and its a very good number..get to help ppl and can progress up the ladder to 100k within 10 yrs.

Remember it's not about where you start but where you end up. And as long as where you're at suits you then you have nothing toi worry about.

I started off in my first job @ 16 years of age for $2.50 per hour, 13 years later I earn nearly 30 times that.

Stick with it as life is what you make it. Luck is a falacy.

We abolished the 'criminal' junior rate at our work place about 8 years. There was nothing worse than working in my industry to see some poor young fellas doing the same hard yard for half the rate (it's peanuts as it is!!). My opinion is that It's not right and borderlining on age discrimination.
