Hey guys, as a few of you may know, i havent posted here in the past 40 odd days because i've been at Kapooka in basic training for the army.
Just got a bit of internet time away from the hectic schedule so just thought I'd let anyone know just incase they happen to be a recruit instructer here. Since I've seen a fair few nice fords around the base and just couldnt help but think if they browsed on here. >.< Got another 1 and a bit months left here, guess the thing i miss most is driving. Just try and not drive, or even look at your beast for 80 days and you'll know how i feel :| As you'd expect training was one hell of a change of life style at the start but hey i've gotten used to it now and its just a matter of listening to what i've been told. Anyone else on here apart of the wider army?? Willo

I was posted there for a few months middle of last year. I was over the other side of the Hill at ATW as the 2IC. I'm a LT so life is a bit different for me compared to how the recruits experience things on the hard side of the hill!

Yep, it certainly was, from memory there was one very special get together, where the Army and RAAF teamed up. To clean up and get the blokes who knifed one of our boys in a fight. That was not the done thing then, even the coppers got involved.

Did Kapooka in 92. Bed space 23, 36 Platoon. HALLWAY 36.
We had to dry shave in the hallway then get aftershave splashed on our face by the "Jack c#%&" that didn't shave that day. Do you still have to polish a brass strip around the hallway? We used to crash halt by that strip and yell "God save the Queen". Fond memories. "on the command, you will all move into your rooms, like a heard of startled gazelles, and bring your pillows for hinspetsion, MOVE". |

in 2005 i was in 25 platoon, my my have things changed since then. who is your instructors? i have a few mates down there now. i recall being a, "pathetic excuse for a human being and i wouldn't even be used as crap paper if i could be." (insert many swear words that swear filter takes out). people fainting on parade so having to drink 3 litres of water in 5 minutes and throwing up everywhere so that we know to, "stay hydrated men!" Many more story's i could chuck up here, makes me laugh thinking about it. if your joining the infantry mate, Kapooka is a walk in the park compared to Singleton. Singleton is where the real work starts, however with all this OHS&S stuff it has probably changed as well. any questions about anything shoot me a PM, just remember that its all a game mate, they don't actually hate you keep your head down and don't question any authority, you will breeze through that last bit of the course. |

when you get to Singleton and need to come into Maitland to party look me up, my partner is setting up a hire car business and can get you to Maitland in an LTD for the same price as a normal cab

Hey XCwillo, sounds like good times. Where are you off to afterwards? I went thru camp pooky in 2003 (12PL I think). I laugh now remembering some of the stories, but I didn't at the time. One of the lowlights was the time I left my locker insecure and came back at the end of the day to put on some comfy dry socks... I opened the locker door, and instead of socks waiting for me there was a corporal who launched himself out and proceeded to tear me a new one on the spot...
Ditto fordomatics advice - don't take anything personally and just let the insults bounce off. Dedicate yourself to getting the job done no matter what and most importantly always be a team player! I kept a low profile with the instructors and that helped. However the real fun starts with your IET's... Good luck and don't forget to lock your arms in while walking downstairs! |

Was there in 72, when we arrived we were 'marched' to our building it was late afternoon and we were greeted with a you'll be sorry from the others hanging out of the windows. The next day another hair cut even though we all had little to cut, we were a mix of regulars and 'nashos' the next 3mths were like nothing else I had seen!! Still I have fond memories of the place, highlights going to Wagga blood bank, a Saturday afternoon in town at the rsl club think the girls could pick us out, we had the Kapooka stripe on our face from our slouch hat chin strap.
