Default Heading to Darwin

Me and three other guys are going to be working in Darwin next week for the next three to four weeks .
We all have never been up there from Perth and just seeing where are the good places to stay .We are looking to stay in self contained accommodation style .
Plus be good to catch up for drinks while I'm up there if not a cruise.

While the basic Ford Six was code named Barra, the Turbo version clearly deserved its very own moniker – again enter Gordon Barfield.
We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about.
“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.

Don't stay overnight in Fitzroy, push on to Halls Creek which isn't much better.
In Kunnanurra there's some great Caravan Parks with accomodation, try and spend a day or 2 there, so much to see especially the Ord River dam/project, get some mangoes etc.
On the way to Darwin check out Litchfield National Park, heaps of great swimming holes and water falls, it's about 2 hours south of Darwin.

Go to the Shark place in the main street & go in the 'cage of death'

Litchfield National Park is well worth the drive, so nice there.

As for watering holes, no idea, I didn't head out on my own when I was there - my wife was pregnant at the time so I only drank at a few crappy places & where we we're staying - Skycity Casino <-- don't go there its so old & run down..

yeh Crocosaurus Cove is great,
nightlife goes fair well.. main street of Darwin.

i stayed at Mirambeena Resort, it isnt self contained.. but a great accomm. place.
the new Medina grand is pretty flash.

Croc cruises are really good if youre into that.
heaps of touristy things to do.. depends what you like...

I've got a stop over in Darwin between 6.30PM and 1.45AM on Friday 4th. Coming back from Groote to Sydney. Any recommendations for a decent place to have a drink/get a feed?

I went a couple of months ago with dad and step family, wasn't a bad place at all! Although I'd like to go with mates, and I.D...
