It won't work. Simple as that.
On a side note, there are already things blocked on the internet by government. Certain news groups are already blocked by ISPs. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...s.cfm?t=967413 On a personal note, it should be up to parents to monitor net usage. I know that if this scheme comes out, I'll be opting out myself, even when I have kids. I'll be watching them like a hawk if they use the internet.

why can;t they just leave us the eff alone?
deadset im sick of how everything these days requires somebody to be watching over our shoulder with us being wrapped in bubblewrap, its pathetic. what ****es me off the most is that you can;t opt out, if you do you're only opting out of the p0rn side of it, they'll still block illegal sites, then once we get used to it they'll start blocking every thing, |

I guess Rudd wants Australia to be more like China.
The solution would be to have an ISP that only offered blocked content, then see how many people sign up... |

Shouldn't it be an *option* to have your connection censored, rather than complete blanket censorship? I personally think it's all bs to control what we see and hear. Too bad it'll be another 3 years before we can vote Rudd out on his butt.

Reminds me of China, "Great Firewall of China!". Don't worry, us geeks always come through.
If not, people will get fed up without their porn soon enough anyway and make some sort of complaint.

i don't think it matters if we can bypass it or not but the govt should not be allowed to bring out anything like this. It's almost as bad as London with their cameras watching everybody 24/7

Some people think Rudd is going to give us an choice as to whether we want to use this filter. All I said is there won't be this option. Don't get me wrong, I'm dead against this form of censorship and will be interested to see how encompassing this filter is eg. will they try and stop the use of torrent sites?

The next government wont do it any differently. How do you argue for your right to access ILLEGAL content? Your right to PIRATE music/software etc?
The last government did much more under the guise of "anti-terrorism". I dont support filtering so dont bother with that tripe, Im just pointing it out. |

I have accessed inappropriate material often over the years, often underage, and I haven't become completely distorted and disturbed....
I don't want any of those white collar, blue nose garden gnome p!ssants getting in the way of my life.
