I have been smoking for over 20 years and around a pack a day. The last tax increase on smokes got me really motivated to quit as I pay enough tax already and was the kick start for me to get off my a*s and finally do something about it and get my health back on track too.
Started on Champix last week and decided today was the day to stop smoking. So far so good, I have no urge to have one as soon as I wake up, it has been like this all week, so the tablets must be doing something( are you sure they aren't just sugar tablets ?). Smoko at work was no problem around all the smokers, but my biggest hurdle was tonight after work, I would always have 2 or 3 on the drive home, but just ate half a packet of jelly beans and all was good. Even after 1 day, the interior of the car and house smell so much better already. Seems all of you on here are doing really well and have plenty of support from other members so keep it up. |

For Pam and I, heaven used to be sitting at the pokies together, drinking Jack 'n' coke and choofing away together one after the other!
(basically feeding all 3 of our addictions at the same time!) I think the old saying may be true... Anything fun is either illegal, immoral or fattening...

I failed big time, stress of work and uni assignements / exam time sent me back to using the cancer sticks to prop me up. Got down to a few a day but I'm going to give it a proper go once Im on holidays |

Until six weeks ago I couldn't face leaving them alone for more than a couple of hours during my waking hours. Now, having broken the cycle, it's exhilarating how good it feels to be free! I would never dream of undoing the good now. Cigarettes as far as I am concerned have not one iota in their favour. I wholly sympathise and feel for anyone confronting the big decision to quit. It is hard. But the rewards. Oh boy! |

Well said Max.
Day 10 for me now and no urges at all. As you said, I feel free and feel great to boot. I know it's only early, but I really think I have given them up and over it. I'm still on the Champix, but I swear they are only sugar tablets. It's all in the mind and you do have to want to quit. Keep up the great work gents. |

I started cycling the day I gave up, because I knew I would eat more and all good so far. Max, a few Kg heavier is better than being a smoker any day mate.

You're dead right gossy. A couple of kilo is nothing. I will fetch out my trusty (and dusty) mountain bike and make some use of it!

Good on you Jason.
The urges are all but gone and doesn't it feel damn good? I haven't had a drink yet, I will prolong that for as long as I can. How have you blokes gone when having a few? |

Well I only drink liquor with meals anyway so that's not been a problem at all. For the first week I stopped drinking alcohol and coffee. Now I'm back on both no issue since April 30. If anything I appreciate the drink for the drink's sake- like a good coffee, beer or good wine tastes really good now.

Well done to all who have quit or are quitting.
I quit about 10 years ago for the first time. At that point, I had been a smoker for about 12 years at 50 a day. (B&H Special Filter). Went on the gum for 3 days then cold turkey for the rest. About 7 years ago my best mate from Sydney came up to Qld for a visit. I had 1 with him for "old times sake". Well that kicked off the addiction as if I had never stopped. My mind kept going back to wanting another and another. I became complacent and thought I can stop at any time. I was wrong. I tried again a couple of months ago and lasted about 3 weeks. It just seemed to be getting harder and harder. After speaking to friend, who suggested I try Champax, I thought I would give it a go. So now I am on day 18 and doing very well. A few small surprises I have discovered is that I go to the fridge to snack, but don't feel like anything in there. Instead I go for a bottle of water. My wife (non smoker) is telling me reguarly that I am quite happy and calm to be around (more so than usual). That is not what I am normally like when quitting. I have had a few small outbursts, but they have subsided rather quickly. My main reason for quitting is that I have been feeling the effects of smoking rather badly as of late. For the past 7 years I have been smoking about 30-35 a day. Quote:

just use the champix till the end of the whole course as you have a better chance of not going back to the cigies
as for the reason i gave up below is it i dont think i could handle not being able to play with them Jason

36 days and never going back.
When I first quit, the smell of smokes didn't bother me, now, it repulses me. Keep going Jason, bet you've seen your bank account looking healthier as well aye? |

well done guys... and to anyone who thinks they cant quit, ive heard A LOT of good from champix...
theres also another option.. its not for everyone, but its called e-cigs, electronic cigarettes. Basically you 'smoke' this stick, which is just a battery (With led on the end), and an atomizer. the atomizer is an element, that heats up liquid niccotine into a vapour. so you draw in this vapour like a ciggy, and blow out the vapour. like smoke. so the whole action and principle is the same, you get the hit, and the hand to mouth craving etc is all looked after. theres no tar, smoke etc etc, its just a diluted niccotine. There's varying strengths, so you can ween off it. you can purchase it from america at, http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/ and it works out alot cheaper than ciggys too... of course the niccotine is still addictive, so this is definately not for everyone, but its an alternate route. |
