Gotta love this. Some guy reported his car stolen early last year and the cops just pulled it over. When they checked it was found his wife was driving it, and had no idea what the police were on about.
Apparently he forgot where he parked it, reported it stolen and then forgot to let them know when he remembered where it was. :

I loved the fail to pay at BP this morning. In a Hired ute.
The guy had a history of not returning hired vehicles, AND he was disqualified!!!

Listen for long enough and in Sydney (where that scanner feed is from) you will be scared to leave your home when you know the shit & white trash living in parts of Sydney. Hate to say it, but yes, the west is worst. I've been listening to that stream for a few months now, on and off, and there are some pretty nasty people out there. Every second person pulled up has all this intelligence to do with some sort of crime - I think I'm the only one in Sydney thats never been arrested, charged with a crime and also to have a perfect driving record.....(for the time being)
Someone mentioned it was not streaming any one area in particular - its called 'trunking' - it takes bits of several different frequencys, I think mainly when one area is quiet for a few seconds, it picks up transmissions from another area and so on, to give you a good variety. Otherwise it would be quiet a lot. I listen to Sutherland/St George area and I am surprised at how quiet police radio can be at times - even tonight (saturday) in an area covering about 180,000 home, it can deadly silent for nearly a minute |

2:50am Sydney time...
High Speed chase. "Xr8 Ute - blue in colour" – Original offence - "taken off around the corner Sideways & lost it" "lost it completely and hit a traffic control light" "160ks p/h now". Police still in pursuit.. Holy crap. Dispatch then asked him his current speed "Speed at the moment 180" Dog 27 terminate the pursuit "yeh I'm slowing down" (One that got away) "Didn’t get close enough to get his rego". dispatch asked him to estimate the XR's speed. "unsure of speed but i was doing 180 and he wasn't getting any closer but wasn't pulling away" Last edited by JADED6; 09-01-2005 at 02:55 AM. |

I've been listening to my own scanner in Melb for about 12 months now, so i understand the excitement amongst you here :P but i do have a word of warning. It is not illegal to use a scanner (except for listening to the old analog mobiles when they existed, and cordless house phones), HOWEVER you are not allowed to relay the information you do hear on to anyone else, for example a public forum...
Although there are some bloody funny stories... "XXXX 398 reporting back on that domestic, can we have some more info on this guy?" 15mins pass... "XXXX 398, we have that background check you requested. His name is XXXXX, he's 6'5" and approximately 140kg. He has a history of drug related offences, and also assaulting police officers. Stand-by..." A voice comes over the radio softly, puffing and wheezing "Yeah thanks for that, we just found that out the hard way..." AND ANOTHER ONE: "All units keep a lookout, we have reports of a green VH commodore or similar driving very erratically on the western ring-road near blahblah. WE have reports that he's swerving across multiple lanes, and may also be smoking a bong..." Most commonly pulled over cars that i've heard. 1. Black Skylines 2. Silvia's 3. WRX 4. VR/VS commodores 5. Blue/Silver EA falcon's 6. BMW convertibles If you are wanting SA or TAS scanning, they're both digital (digital scanners are $1000+ as opposed to $100 for analog...) are and also encoded. VIC will be going the same way in the next 2-3 years. Not sure about NSW or WA. Jared |

Some places in NSW already use the encrypted digital scanners. But they are using the same type that were used for the security force during the Olympics. When they were all sold off afterwards they police channels were supposed to be de-programmed, but it wasn't done, and so almost as soon as they changed over, there were already people with these scanners who could pick them up.

nup never even looked into it, but hay we are 2 or more years behind the US so if u did get one it would prolly last for 6 or so years, gives enough time for australian authoritorys to catch up and by the time they get a new system u'll still pick em up 'if only we could look into the future!!!
