You must have a pretty old car to not have those features mentioned in the first post.
I couldn't think of a more bland, soulless car |

Hired a new Camry down in Adelaide in Jan.
Great car. Big, economical, safe etc etc etc... Hated it... Sorry, they have become way too big. We took it as a free 'upgrade' from the Cerato / Cruze sized car we booked and I regretted it. Didn't need the extra space, and the place we were staying had the tighest parking you could imagine. We just needed a car to ride around in, only had 2 carry on bags and only had 2 people in the back a few times. Would be an ideal car if you need to cart around 4-5 adults in comfort all the time with a heap of gear but I think calling it a midsizer like most people still think of them as is a real understatement. If you are used to a commy or falcon they would be great size wise, but for me... not my cup of tea considering that my daily drivers are the old and new Mirage. Having said that, at the sub 30K price they are going for, anyone who needs a large sedan as transport would be mad to scratch it off the short list.

Got a mate with a TF Magna that still has original pads, 120k kms and according to him the mechanic who last serviced it said there is still heaps of meat on them.

We can't compare ourselves to the majority of people. We enjoy driving cars and modding them.
For a lot of people, driving is nothing more than a way to get around and for others it is even one of their least favorite activities. So it makes sense they would spend that money elsewhere on something they actually like doing. Take away the styling and performance of the Falcon and Commodore and do you really have a car that's much different from a Camry? |

* Rear Wheel Drive. * Size and passenger space. * Handling and ride comfort. * Towing ability. * Ground clearance. * A decent set of headlights for night driving. * Probably cheaper parts (not sure about that though). Then you've got something like a Camry. |

I had an Aurion SX6 for a week in NZ a few years ago and I really liked it. Was pretty quick, handled pretty well and was big. I looked at one when I bought my XR50. The missus hated the Aurion. Said it felt lifeless, not exciting to drive. Mind you, see doesn't much like the XR50 either. But it was better than the Aurion.

Wife has an 03 camry with 188000k's - rear brake pads are original. Stopping power is actually quite impressive in this, but guess it is all relative, as there is not much get up and go.
Where it does out perform my falcon is those areas which are important to her. Stereo works, all power windows work and the air conditioning is very cold. Boot space fits the kids bikes without taking them apart. The re sale value isn't too bad either. Only thing I have done to it is changed the alternator, serpentine belt and belt tensioner. Oh yeah, at some stage I did change the front pads and put some fresh brake fluid in. :o) |

One issue with the Camry ive noticed is that it cant hold the exact speed on cruise control.
My EL doesnt gain speed down hills or lose speed up hills, so why should a car made in 2014 do it? Base model Camry doesnt have lumber adjustment either, but the previous model did!

I drove a new camry for work for 6 months and also an aurion presara for about a month.
quality cars, genuine alternative to falcon as family car. Families are mad not to consider them. camry has adequate performance around town, adequate size and quality built. Only downside for me was lacked a little overtaking when going uphill on the f3 at 110km/h. Also has a tinney exhaust note. Rest of car beautiful, perfect if you dont do too much freeway driving. aurion is real nice, same as camry basically plus proper power. probably quicker than a falcon i6, more power than you will ever need, quality build, basically a poor mans lexus. Id seriously consider one over a falcon n/a i6. Be a tough decision. For the small price premium over the camry you would grab the aurion. Someone tested one on the dyno and they make 165kw+ at the wheels stock. Last edited by HULK_I6T; 24-03-2014 at 11:41 PM. |

I know why people buy Camrys, because they want to.

Bull.....they're "told" they want to. No one buys a Camry because they love them. Not one single human being....it's not conceivable
![]() I can fit my wife's mountain bike in the back seat of the falcon.....no need for the boot. My 1000watt scooter goes there. Probably got more power in my boot then in the camry ![]() People buy camrys just like they buy old gen mazdas in record numbers still.....there's no explanation! |

As someone who has driven both a 2010 FG XR6 and a 2011 Aurion over plenty of klms, I have to disagree with this.

The only standard accessory missing from the Camry is an Akubra Hat resting comfortably on the rear parcel shelf.

You can get a brand new MC Mondeo Zetec auto Ecoboost for under $30 drive away depending on dealer.
Brilliant car that nobody knows about.

My father inlaw was pushing the wife to get a 2012 camry she drove one and said it was rubbish nasty harsh motor in them she hated.
He is 83 yo and was raving on about they have heaps of power. Wife drove the falcon and did not like it as it was to big and could not see out of it well so that was that. commodore could not see jack out of that so that was the end of that. So she got the Aurion. i was impressed with a front wheel drive how good it was at first for a front wheel drive but now i hate it as it's only a boring city slicker car thats made for wimps, it's just total heap of rubbish on dirt roads. yes it goes ok in 1st and 2ed but in 3rd it's all gone same with the holden and ford 6 cyl. but the sump has a big dint in it now as it's in harms way, just rubbish not an Aussue car for Aussie conditions. |

I cant believe what I am reading, you cant compare a Camry to a Falcon, the Falcon is a real car the camry is a pretend real car, yes it gets you from a to b and has that overrated Toyota reliability but at the end of the day its a front wheel drive POS, most Camry drivers don't have a clue, or any interest in cars or how to drive one!. Im glad that I can say that most of my life I could have chosen a home grown Falcon or Commodore because the future looks like a proper RWD car will be only for the wealthy. That is all for now.
