Hey all, well my plans MAY have changed again for work. I might be getting transferred to Wollongong. Not an area I know too well. Looking to get a newer house, around $450,000. Any areas you recommend to live or avoid??
Small kids, so schools are important, and within 30 mins drive of the gong. Thinking Albion Park maybe?? thanks for any tips Help me avoid the bogans!!!!!!!! : |

I live in Albion Park, not the most ideal area, but not too bad either. Tend to get some crap in the air in summer when a NE wind is blowing. Haywards bay is a new estate just before the airport at the end of the f6. It is opposite harrigan ford. Shellcove & flinders are not too bad either, although can be pricey. Good luck with the move.
If you class a hsv owner as a bogan , then albion park is out for you, all the cardigan wearing fairmont drivers are in haywards bay. : |

I live in Kiama and can't recommend it enough. Close to clean sheltered beaches, small shopping area and pretty good schools and it's about 40 mins from the centre of Wollongong.

agree with wayne, kiama is top notch. I work in kiama, one of the best spots on teh whole sth coast. good luck mate. if your willing t drive 45 min, shoalhaven heads has even better value for money house wise. 450k will get you a real nice house, and got a very good school for the kids.

Wayne and BFYOOT know what they're talking about. If you have to work in the 'gong the best places to live are Berry or Kiama. The road from either of them to the 'gong are undergoing a once in a lifetime overhaul and communting there is only going to get easier in the coming years.
Speaking from personal experience too ;) <= see my location at left |

Berry and Kiama look great, but too much in the buckeroos department. Nothing going for less than $500,000 with 4 bedrooms, so will have to try somewhere else
thanks for the tips though!!!!! |

Nice in the brochures but in reality too many McMansions stuffed onto too small blocks with most owners in mortgage hell all to help make the developers and council richer. Not my idea of fun. Keep looking ;)

now that is funny. I was able to pop down for a day last month for a quick look, and I see what you mean. Would prefer a 'new' area, so still a few options left |

I'm gonna vote for the north side of the city. I think Corrimal is still affordable and it's only about 10-15 mins to town. West of the Northern Distributor is preferrable.
My family home is in Woonona and it's one of the best places 'around' Sydney, only 1.5 hrs drive/train to Sydney and 15 mins into town. I don't think it's quite affordable any more, but hit up realestate.com.au & domain.com.au Dapto is trying to clean up it's image, but I don't think it's working all -that- well :

cordeux heights... very hilly but nice quiet neighbourhood, dunno whether is cheap enough cos' some of the houses up there are real nice. corrimal & woonona are a good choice.
