Default graphic card wose

gday fellas

i have an asus ati x600 graphics card and it s0x for games, play games like rome: total war and gta:sa and it always crashes, it will freez then properly crash and screen will go blank

recently got a dvd copy of windows xp off my friend, had a list of programs pre installed to installation of windows, he said there was no need to install graphics card as it had it on there or something, i decided to install anywayz, but the computer just craps itself and only has avalible lowest colour and 800x600 rezolution

i reformated and thought bugger it, it was working fine b4 should be alright, streight away after playin a game it freezes and crashes so i have to manual restart, iv try downloading latest drivers and apps, but nothing works

can someone help me out here, i dont want to have to upgrade the computer so soon :(
