A number of people I know are doing the opposite and are hopping into 4x4s.
For the first time in 35 years my Father no longer owns a V8 after having a plethora of V8 Falcons and lastly his Cobra he recently sold. A mate of mine just sold his VE SS to finance a brand new Wildtrak. And a few other guys also bought new Rangers - offloading their V8 utes. I am still driving my BF XR8 and I don't have any plans to change that any time soon.
