Police say a carjacking attempt in Perth on Saturday night came to an abrupt halt when the alleged carjacker discovered she couldn't drive a manual.

Three women have been charged over the incident, in which a 27-year-old woman was dragged by her hair out of her car.

The woman was driving home from work along Garret Road, in Perth's eastern suburb of Bayswater at 9.30pm (WST) on Saturday when a pedestrian stepped out in front of her car, Sergeant Greg Lambert said.

The driver was forced to stop her car while three women allegedly surrounded the vehicle, opened the doors and tried to grab the keys.

Sgt Lambert said the driver was dragged out of the car by her hair.

He said the three women allegedly got into the car, but only managed to drive about 150 metres because the driver could not drive a manual.

Witnesses called police who arrested the women.

A 33-year-old has been charged with aggravated robbery and stealing a motor vehicle and a 32-year-old and 38-year-old were charged with stealing a motor vehicle.

Police said the driver was left shaken by the incident but suffered no injuries.
A well planned crime there. It is usually the stupid crims that get caught the easiest
